Canon Origin

Canon - The name Canon is of Buddhist origin. The founder of Canon was a medical doctor, and the name was inspired by his looking up at the sky. The original name of Canon was "SEIKI KOUGAKU KENKYUJO" (Seiki Kouga-ku Kenkyujo), a research institute for precision optical instruments. The company was founded in Japan. Canon originally had a very English name, KWANON, meaning Kannon. Under this name, the company named its first 35mm rangefinder camera. To date, only one KWANON camera survives in the world. Around 1936, the company officially launched its cameras under the brand name HANSA CANON, with the word CANON meaning "grand, standard, criterion". Since then, Canon has become a world-famous camera brand and a symbol of the company. There is no doubt that the name has grown in popularity, and the current use of EOS (Electronic Optical System) not only represents the acronym for Electronic Optical System, but also a goddess known in Greece as the Dawn.
