Xiong Dazhen’s famous teachers and students

Xiong Dazhen was very smart and capable, and was deeply appreciated and valued by Mr. Ye Qisun, dean of science and head of the Department of Physics at Tsinghua University at the time, and the teacher-student relationship was very close. Under the training and guidance of Ye Qisun, Xiong Dazhen made rapid progress and was good at integrating theory with practice, and had operational abilities that exceeded those of ordinary people. He once borrowed a Leica camera from the school's physics department, opened a small photo studio in the school, named "Tsinghua Photo Studio", became his own boss, and actually made a lot of money in one year, and also bought some new In preparation for his graduation thesis, Xiong Dazhen accepted Mr. Ye’s suggestion and chose “infrared” (also known as “infrared” at the time) photography research. In fact, infrared photography is still an extremely confidential military technology internationally. There is no domestic information and there is a lack of funds. Xiong Dazhen used the spectroscopy laboratory of the Department of Physics and X-ray diffraction to study film and achieved a series of breakthrough results. On a dark night, he stood on the top of Guijianchou Peak in Xiangshan Mountain and actually took a panoramic view of the entire Tsinghua University Garden and the entire Beiping City. This incident caused a great sensation in Tsinghua University and even in higher education circles across the country. It was later confirmed that this precious photo became China's first infrared photo.

Xiong Dazhen graduated from the Department of Physics of Tsinghua University in 1935. The title of his graduation thesis was "Infrared Light Photography Technology". In the autumn of the same year, because of his excellent academic performance, he stayed at the school as a teaching assistant and continued to engage in infrared light research. The next year, he also designed and built a large-scale continuous processing darkroom that was rare in China at that time for the X-ray laboratory of famous scientists Wu Youxun and Yu Ruihuang. In 1937, Xiong Dazhen obtained a place to study in Germany. Just as he was preparing to marry his lover before going abroad, the "July 7th Incident" broke out. His fate, like that of his motherland, took a major turning point, which opened the prelude to a great tragedy. After the incident, Tsinghua University moved south and merged with Peking University and Nankai University to form the National Southwest Associated University. During the relocation process, Ye Qisun was fully responsible for the transportation of books, materials, instruments and equipment. Xiong Dazhen gave up going abroad and getting married and became Ye Qisun's important assistant. Before the rush and transportation work was over, the Japanese army stepped into Tsinghua University. The quiet and beautiful Tsinghua University turned into a dirty and chaotic military camp, and the spacious and bright gymnasium turned into a hospital for wounded soldiers with pus and blood flowing everywhere. Ye and Xiong were forced to move to Tianjin. They set up a temporary office at the Tsinghua University Alumni Association on Gordon Road in the British Concession and arranged to help teachers, students, employees and their families who went south to pass through Tianjin smoothly. Due to long and intense traveling, Mr. Ye unfortunately fell ill and was hospitalized. While Xiong Dazhen took good care of the teacher, he also contacted and arranged for teachers, students and their families such as Wang Li, Qian Weichang, and Mrs. Zhu Ziqing to travel south from Tianjin and arrive safely in Kunming. . After Ye Qisun recovered from his illness and the task of moving the school was completed, Xiong Dazhen was supposed to rush to Kunming with his teacher to devote himself to the construction and teaching of the new school. However, before embarking on the road, due to an accidental and seemingly inevitable reason, his future changed again. A major turning point.
