Ford announces: 50,000 respirators to be produced in 100 days in response to epidemic

Recently, the reporter was informed that Ford Motor announced that it will cooperate with General Electric's medical department to produce 50,000 respirators certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at a plant located in Michigan, U.S.A., in the next 100 days.

It is understood that Ford's plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan*** has 500 auto workers responsible for producing the ventilators, with production starting the week of April 20, and plans to first produce 1,500 units by the end of April, 12,000 by the end of May, and 50,000 ventilators by July 4 for patients with neocoronaryngitis.

GE Healthcare will reportedly license Ford's GE/Airon?A-E ventilator product design from its partner Airon and will provide its clinical and technical experience. The ventilator's innovative design utilizes air pressure to work without electricity and meets the need to save the lives of most patients with new crown pneumonia.

Adrian Price, Ford's director of global manufacturing core engineering, said Ford will deploy a full range of safety systems to keep workers at the Ypsilanti plant safe, including ensuring that workers are at a relatively safe distance from each other and that they are tested for the new coronavirus before entering the plant.

With the outbreak spreading globally, President Donald Trump previously tweeted that Ford, General Motors and Tesla have been authorized to produce respirators and other products. Then, Tesla CEO Musk announced that he would complete distribution of 1,200 ventilators within a week, and medical device maker Medtronic said it had partnered with Tesla. Later in the year, General Motors and Ford Motor have also gotten into the production of medical supplies.
