What is the classification of trademark Nice?

What is the classification of trademark Nice? When applying for a trademark, you will always hear professional terms such as trademark category and Nice classification.

Nice Classification

The full name is Nice Agreement on the International Classification of Goods and Services for Trademark Registration. Because it was signed in Nice, France on June 15th, 1957, it is called Nice Agreement and came into effect on April 8th, 1961. Each member country of the Nice Agreement has the obligation to use the Nice Classification in trademark registration, and must indicate the category number of the international classification where the goods or services covered by the registered trademark are located in the official documents and publications related to trademark registration.

The Nice Agreement mainly stipulates the classification of goods and services, which divides goods into 34 categories and services into 8 categories, which provides great convenience for trademark retrieval and trademark management.

China's trademark classification

At first, China did not participate in the agreement, but in November 1988, it began to use the international commodity classification for trademark registration, and after the amendment of the Trademark Law was implemented on July 1, 1993, it also began to use the international service classification. Subsequently, it formally joined the Nice Agreement on August 9, 1994.

Is the Nice Agreement Global

The Nice Agreement is not global. At present, there are more than 5 member countries, and hundreds of countries use its international commodity classification for trademark registration. Most countries have adopted the Nice Agreement on International Classification for trademark registration, and only some countries still adopt their own classification, such as Iraq.

The charging standard in Iraq is not based on the classification of Nice, but on the local "sub-classification". The basic cost is a small category, and each additional category will increase a part of the cost. Under normal circumstances, items under a standard category can be divided into several small categories in the local classification system in Iraq.

Evergrande Intellectual Property reminds you that when registering a trademark, you should carefully choose the trademark category and seek the help of a professional agency if necessary.
