Yantai, also known as the port city, is a prefecture-level city in Shandong Province, located in the northeast of the Shandong Peninsula. It is located at 119°34′~121°57′ east longitude and 36°16′~38°23′ north latitude. It is connected to Weihai in the east; Weifang and Qingdao in the west; Yellow Sea in the south; Bohai Sea in the north. Yantai faces the Liaodong Peninsula and faces Dalian across the sea. The city's total area is 13864.5 square kilometers.

The prefecture-level Yantai City was established in November 1983.
