Beirut, Lebanon, has suffered 137 deaths and more than 5,000 injuries as of noon on August 6, local time. China's foreign ministry said today that it will provide medical assistance to the Lebanese side as much as it can, and that the three detachments of the Chinese peacekeeping force in Lebanon were on standby orders to grasp the accident situation in the first place and were ready to go out at any time.
In response to the major explosion in Beirut, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said China's peacekeeping medical team in Lebanon will provide medical assistance to Beirut to the best of its ability with medical supplies. As a friendly country to Lebanon, China is willing to provide as much help as it can according to the needs of the Lebanese side in order to help the Lebanese side tide over the difficult times.
Gao Chaoning, commander of the 18th batch of Chinese peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, introduced the situation of our peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, saying that at the time of the Beirut bombing, the camps of the three peacekeeping detachments in Lebanon were 120 kilometers away from the center of the bombing, and the camps were unaffected by the bombing, and that there were no personnel from our peacekeeping forces in Beirut on that day and that no personnel were injured. However, the 19th batch of our rotating peacekeeping force in Lebanon arrived at the port of Beirut on Aug. 3, and has yet to complete customs clearance, and the damage is unknown.
After the explosion, the command immediately contacted the Lebanese Chinese peacekeeping force and staff officers to verify their affected situation, and at the same time through the embassy, UNIFIL Command to keep abreast of the situation on the ground, after learning that a large number of people were killed or injured, China's peacekeeping force immediately revised and improved the rescue program for emergency response and ready to participate in the rescue of the preparedness at any time to move out.
Currently, our peacekeeping force in Lebanon has received a notice from UNIFIL to make preparations for de-explosive and medical assistance, and has prepared targeted personal supplies, rescue equipment and vehicle overhaul, and the force has entered a state of readiness. I believe that our medical detachment personnel are domestic experts in the relevant medical fields, multi-functional engineering and construction detachment personnel have a wealth of experience in disaster rescue, I believe that they are fully confident and capable of completing the rescue mission.
