Hospital Nurse Appreciation Letter Part 2Beijing Haidian Hospital Hospice Ward All medical and nursing staff:
Thank you for letting our father enjoy professional care in his last days physically, and obtain warm comfort psychologically, and for the white-clothed angels who respect life with life!
Our father passed away at 12:05 on May 4, 20xx at the age of 88 in the hospice ward of Beijing Haidian Hospital due to circulatory failure caused by a malignant tumor of the colon.
On April 5, 20xx, my father, who had always been healthy, was admitted to the emergency room of the Third Hospital of North Medicine for abdominal distension and pain, and was initially diagnosed with intestinal obstruction, and was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the colon and liver metastasis after further examination. In the face of his 86-year-old father, many specialists did not advocate surgical treatment (including Prof. Gu Jin, a Chinese expert in colorectal diseases). At that time, some experts said that his father had about six months to live.
Over the past two years, my father had been treated with targeted therapy nine times at the 304 Hospital (the course of treatment should be more than 12 times), and he was treated with cetuximab (manufactured by Merck KGaA, Germany) intravenously once a week. After the ninth treatment, he had difficulty walking. At his father's strong insistence, the medication was stopped and he went home. After about two months of recuperation at home, he started to walk in the park every morning, going from using a cane to hiking empty-handed to walking unaccompanied for more than three months. After stopping the targeted therapy, my father had regular medical checkups and took his medication selectively.
After the 11th of 20xx, my father no longer went out, every day at home, wake up at 6:00 am, watch TV news after breakfast, use the computer in the morning and do a little game such as nine consecutive loops, nap less than an hour, read the newspaper in the afternoon to do sudoku, and in the evening, watch the news broadcasts, sports channels, or one to two episodes of TV drama, and go to bed by 21:30, living a very regular life.
Since April 20xx, my father's journey from checkups, treatment, chemotherapy (targeted therapy), and the process of bouncing between hospitals to his own conditioning has been a process of returning to his family, returning to his heart, and gradually improving the quality of his life, and once again recovering to the pre-disease level. Whether it is my father's search for medical treatment or my mother's treatment process for lung cancer (after two minimally invasive surgeries) and colon cancer on December 30th, 20xx, my father no longer avoids and recognizes the limitations of modern medical science in the treatment of malignant tumors.
My father often discussed with us the topic of quantity and quality of life, clearly advocating quality of life, firmly believing in the preciousness of nature, insisting on following his heart, opposing over-treatment, and convincing us to understand and support his decision without compromise. Over the past two years, we have been accompanying our father, witnessing his attitude towards life, his objectivity, cheerfulness, openness, calmness, frankness, self-confidence, self-esteem, facing up to the situation, patience, strength, persistence ...... . , is the last lesson given to us by our father as an educator.
Since April 20xx, my father has been sleeping more and more, and gradually he could not walk independently, and his meal quantity was reduced, and we mobilized him to be hospitalized for many times, but my father strongly refused to agree.
On April 24, 20xx, my father asked for a painkilling injection due to sudden onset of generalized pain. We told him that he could only go to the hospital for painkillers, so we showed him a beautiful article written by Mr. Qin Yuan, the director of the hospice ward of Beijing Haidian Hospital. Director Qin's article was simple and concise, explaining the main idea of establishing the hospice ward, which is to let patients with terminal cancer not suffer, gain comfort and improve the quality of life. Thus maximizing compliance with the subject and respect for life. My father found these very much in line with his own philosophy and readily agreed to go. After spending the night in the 304 hospital emergency room (father's pain miraculously disappeared after entering the 304 emergency room, so no pain medication was used), he was admitted to the Haidian Hospital hospice ward on April 25, 20xx.
It must be said that the hospice ward of Beijing Haidian Hospital is a blessing for patients with advanced cancer. The director and attending physicians allowed my father to be in charge of his own destiny in his final days, and they consulted my father at all times to maximize my father's choice of treatment options. The medical staff in the hospice ward used their professional skills to professionally escort their seriously ill father on his final journey, easing until they removed his physical discomfort and pain, allowing him to gain comfort and improve his quality of life. At the same time, they respect life, respect the father's attitude, with the most warm-hearted communication to meet the father's psychological needs, so that the father in the last days of comfort and peace of mind, no regrets.
On May 4, 20xx, my father left us after 10 days in the hospice ward.
My father went away, went away peacefully, went away serenely, no excessive treatment, more warm hearted care, the preciousness of life and nature in here has the most real interpretation. There is no falsehood, refusing to do, is - respect life!
Respect for life!
Respect for life!
Respect for life!
As daughters, we are greatly comforted by the fact that our father was able to finish his life this way. The hospice is not only a blessing for the patients, but also a pillar of support for the families of the patients, and a strong backing for us. Their professionalism and humanistic care make us no longer panic in the face of our seriously ill father, and no longer at our wits' end.
Beijing Haidian Hospital Hospice professional warm respect for life we sincerely salute you, thank you, we also on behalf of our late father thank you. We sincerely hope that more and more professional hospitals will set up such wards to serve more and more patients who are suffering from various illnesses, so that they can have professional medical technology and professional medical staff to escort them in their last days, so as to improve the quality of life and maintain the dignity of life.
