Yibin is located in the southern part of the Sichuan Basin, which is the intersection of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou provinces.
East of the Yangtze River, west of the size of the Liangshan Mountains, near the south of Yunnan, Guizhou, north of the Sichuan hinterland, known as the shape of southern Sichuan.
Since ancient times, Yibin has been an important distribution center and transportation hub for materials in southern Sichuan, northeastern Yunnan, and northwestern Guizhou.
Yibin is located between 103°36′-105°20′ east longitude and 27°50′-29°16′ north latitude.

The city is bordered by Sichuan Luzhou City in the east, Zhaotong City in Yunnan Province in the south, Leshan City and Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in the west, and Zigong City in the north.

The topography of Yibin is high in the southwest and low in the northeast.

Yibin is an early developed city in Southwest China, as early as in the Western Han Dynasty in the sixth year of the Gao Hou (182 years ago) has been set up the city, so far there has been a history of 2,187 years.
Yibin was one of the first few cities in the western region of Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Tibet and Chongqing to set up a county, an administrative organization above the county level.
In the first year of Emperor Zhaodi's reign in the Western Han Dynasty (86 years ago), the city of Yibin became the county seat of Gandhara County, which has been in existence for 2,091 years.
Since then, and more than 1,400 years for a long time for the county, state, road, government, specialties, districts, municipalities and provincial municipalities.
