Is there any connection between General Electric and General Motors? (Why use the word "general"? )

There is no internal connection between the two, and the name change is just a coincidence.

The General Electric Company was founded by the great inventor Edison. Edison founded Edison Electric Light Company on 1878. 1892, Edison General Electric Company and Thomson Houston Electric Company merged to form General Electric Company (GE), which is the largest diversified service company in the world and a provider of high-quality, high-tech industrial and consumer products. From aircraft engines and power generation equipment to financial services, from medical imaging and TV programs to plastics, GE is committed to creating a better life through various technologies and services.
