Classification of psychological tools

Commonly used psychological instruments can be classified into four categories:

① Stimulating instruments, such as speedometer memory drum, color wheel, flashing fuse, lever frame regulator, combiner, depth perception instrument, audiometer, tactile instrument, etc. Although these instruments have other uses, they are mainly used to present stimuli.

(2) Instruments for recording reactions, such as reaction time meter, multichannel recorder, Skinner box, maze, lashley jumping stand, polygraph, etc. These instruments are mainly used to record the reaction frequency, reaction time, reaction intensity, reaction right and wrong and other behavioral indicators.

③ The most important comprehensive instrument is the electronic computer. In psychological research, it can be used not only for statistical processing of data, but also for presenting stimuli, recording reactions and controlling the whole experimental process by programs. It is an important equipment with many uses.

(4) Devices for controlling irrelevant variables, such as blindfolds, darkrooms, sound insulation rooms, one-way transparent glass windows, closed-circuit televisions, etc. The function of these devices is to protect the subjects from the interference of irrelevant stimuli outside the experimental variables.
