Blood stations take our free blood donations and sell them to hospitals?

The owner has misunderstood. The reason is that the process of storing and transporting blood between the time it is donated and the time it is put into the patient's body costs a lot of money, and the staff also need to be paid. So there is a fee for the transfusion. Blood stations are not for-profit organizations and do not make a profit.

I don't know much about whole blood. As far as I know, in Tangshan, Hebei province, a platelet transfusion costs 1,600 yuan, and when we donate component blood, the equipment, the tubes that are inserted into us, costs 1,000 yuan, and that's all disposable, so you throw it away when you're done. And for each blood donor, you get 200 yuan for transportation and a supermarket shopping card worth 100 yuan. So far, the blood stations have had at least $1,200 invested in them (assuming the supermarket cards are free from the supermarkets). Then, the platelets we donate need to be shock-preserved, otherwise they will be uneven, and the equipment for shock-preservation is also very expensive. So, owners, please think about this, plus, the cost of honoraria for various staff, etc. Isn't the $1600 charge understandable?

So, the fee charged for blood transfusion is justified, and the owner should not feel discouraged and cheated because of this. It is true that our health care system is not perfect, and it would undoubtedly be more desirable if blood transfusion recipients did not have to pay for it, but all we can do is to try to give them as much help as we can.

So I hope that the owner will not be upset, but will feel honored and happy about his donation.
