Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a new discipline that integrates the cross-fertilization of a variety of disciplines, such as Applied Mathematics, Automatic Control, Pattern Recognition, Systems Engineering, Computer Science and Psychology, etc. It is the third most advanced technology of the 21st century, and it is the most advanced technology of the 21st century. It is one of the three cutting-edge technologies of the 21st century (genetic engineering, nanoscience, artificial intelligence). It is the study of the functional behaviors usually associated with human intelligence performed by intelligent machines, such as reasoning, proof, perception, planning and problem solving and other thinking activities, to solve complex problems handled by humans. Artificial intelligence keeps pace with the world's social progress and scientific and technological development, advancing with the times, and many research results about artificial intelligence have been widely applied to various fields in national defense construction, industrial production, and national life. In the era of information network and knowledge economy, artificial intelligence has now become a widely valued and has a broad application potential of the frontier disciplines, will play a greater role in promoting the progress of science and technology and industrial development. Therefore, it is very urgent to carry out the teaching and scientific research of AI in universities and colleges in China. So far, most of the engineering colleges and universities in the country have opened the course of artificial intelligence in automatic control, computer/software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics and other related majors. Since its establishment in 2005, the School of Automation of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications has been focusing on ? Artificial Intelligence? as an elective course for undergraduates majoring in automation, which has a history of eight years so far. Since Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT) is an engineering institution featuring post and telecommunications, communications, electronics, computers, and automation, there is an urgent need for many of the majors offered by the university to use AI theories and methods to solve practical problems in scientific research. Driven by the demand of the problem, the people of SPS have achieved fruitful results in AI scientific research after years of hard work, such as the modern intelligent logistics system developed by the School of Internet of Things and the urban traffic flow control and decision-making system developed by the School of Automation, which provide a typical teaching case for the opening of this course. Combined with the actual teaching experience in recent years, we have summarized the teaching methods of artificial intelligence courses from the aspects of preferred teaching materials, assessment methods, teaching content adjustment, improvement of teaching methods and practical teaching.
I. Preferred Teaching Materials
At present, there are many kinds of Chinese and English teaching materials for AI courses in China. Following the principles of practicality, simplicity, and adequacy, and after the research of the lecturers and students, we have chosen the third edition of Artificial Intelligence and Its Applications edited by Prof. Zixing Cai of Central South University as the teaching materials for this course in South China University of Posts and Telecommunications (SUNPost). This book covers a relatively comprehensive knowledge system of artificial intelligence, including knowledge representation, search reasoning, fuzzy computing, expert systems and so on. The book is mainly written for students majoring in computer science, automation, electrical engineering and other undergraduate majors, and the content is basic and moderately difficult. This textbook written by Prof. Cai comprehensively introduces the research content and application areas of artificial intelligence, and achieves novel content, simple and easy to understand, taking into account the fundamentals and applications, and has been praised by the majority of teachers and students across the country, and many years of teaching practice has proved that the textbook we chose is appropriate and correct.
Second, the assessment method
In most of the higher education institutions in the country, ? Artificial Intelligence? This course mostly choose the open-book examination to assess. In order to strengthen students' mastery of the basics of artificial intelligence, the School of Automation at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications has chosen a closed-book examination. In order to eliminate some of the students want to complete the assessment of artificial intelligence through cheating in the final closed-book examination, we have strengthened the assessment of the students' usual attendance, undergraduate homework and experimental results, thus eliminating the problem of ? A piece of paper to determine the grade? We have strengthened the assessment of students' regular attendance, homework and lab results, thus eliminating the phenomenon of "one paper, one grade". Our final grade for AI is divided according to the following weights: 10% for regular attendance, 10% for homework, 20% for experiments, and only 60% for the final exam. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the country's current education system, to avoid students? Mechanical To overcome the shortcomings of the current education system, to avoid the students to deal with the teaching and examination mechanically, we have adjusted the type of examination questions, no longer fill in the blanks, choice, short answer and other types of questions, but changed to solve practical problems oriented application of the main type of questions, so that the students only need to understand the content of the lectures on the basis of the use of their own thinking to solve the problem can be, which also reflects the country is currently advocating the application of teaching orientation.
Third, the teaching content adjustment
For undergraduates, the artificial intelligence course needs to teach too much content, due to the limitations of the class time, we must streamline the teaching content, so that students can master the basics at the same time, but also be able to understand its specific applications. Therefore, we divide the teaching content of this course on artificial intelligence into two parts: the first part is the basic theory and methods, including the overview of artificial intelligence, knowledge representation methods, deterministic reasoning methods, etc.; the second part is the specific application of the research results of artificial intelligence, including neuron network computing, fuzzy intelligent computing, expert knowledge base system, machine language learning, etc.. Through the reasonable adjustment and arrangement of the content of the textbook, the lecture program can be more comprehensive coverage of the basic knowledge of the course of artificial intelligence, so as to meet the students' needs for knowledge.
IV. Improvement of Teaching Methods
(I) Stimulate Students' Interest in Learning
After a long time of teaching, we found that in the elective ? Artificial Intelligence? This course, each student's mind is different, these students in the beginning of the study is still relatively strong interest, but with the teaching content has become more and more abstract, students gradually lost confidence in the learning of this class, and even the class time do not go to listen to the class, so that the instructor of the teaching gradually lost confidence, resulting in a vicious circle, seriously affecting the quality of teaching. In view of this phenomenon, we believe that it is necessary to fully stimulate students' interest in learning before the start of the class. We have to combine the experimental conditions of the school, before the start of the class to give students a demonstration of ? Robot medical service? Experiments, through the demonstration of the experiment, so that students can see the robot can provide patients with a number of humane services, understanding of artificial intelligence technology in the development of medical services robot in a number of key technologies, so that students in the course before the start of the course can be a great interest in the study of this course, practice has proved that this method is effective.
(ii) multimedia teaching
Multimedia teaching is a very important form of modern teaching process, it is often based on the teaching objectives and the characteristics of the students, through the rational design, selection of teaching materials, the application of formulas, graphics, text, video, and other media information for the organic combination of information and through the computer and the projector display, and the combination of traditional means of teaching, the formation of a reasonable teaching process structure, to achieve the goal of achieving a better quality of life. Form a reasonable teaching process structure, to achieve the most optimized teaching effect. Artificial Intelligence is a course with strong relevance, abstract content, cumbersome formulas and other characteristics, students are difficult to learn, in order to let students learn the course vividly and imaginatively, we make full use of multimedia technology in the teaching process to organize the teaching. For example, during classroom teaching, we play the intelligent soccer robot developed by Dr. Liang Zhiwei of the Automation College of South Post University. Intelligent soccer robot? game clips; let the students watch online Dr. Xie Guangming, led by Dr. Xie Guangming, College of Engineering, Peking University, develops the "Autonomous Vision Robot Fish". Autonomous vision robot fish? etc. In the explanation of some important solution algorithms, with the help of Matlab software and projector, directly show the algorithm of the solution process, thus improving the form of course teaching and improving the quality of teaching. (C) advocate classroom debate
We broke the traditional teaching process? Teacher lectures students listen to the class? Such as the organization of? Computer PK human brain? Does computer make TV disappear? What is the future direction of computer development? A series of debates were organized. After a heated debate, both the positive and negative sides feel that they have gained a lot, increased knowledge, broadened horizons. In the process of teaching by the students from? passive listening? role changed to the role of? Active participation role, greatly mobilized the students' learning enthusiasm, thus improving the quality of classroom teaching.
V. Practical teaching
Practical teaching is an indispensable and important part of classroom teaching, and it is an important means to improve the comprehensive quality of students and enhance their market competitiveness by letting students test and apply theoretical knowledge through hands-on experiments at universities at home and abroad. The purpose of artificial intelligence experimental teaching is to let students experience various intelligent control algorithms in the lectures through hands-on experience, so that students can grasp the textbook knowledge in a more visual way. The artificial intelligence teaching plan arranges a 4-credit hour laboratory class set up ? Missionaries and savages crossing the river? Robot path planning? These two artificial intelligence problems require students to independently complete the programming of these two experimental topics and write an experimental report. Through the experiments, students practiced the theoretical knowledge mastered in the classroom and deepened their understanding of intelligent algorithms.
Artificial Intelligence is a practical course, we summarize the teaching experience in recent years, from the selection of teaching materials, assessment methods, teaching content adjustment, improvement of teaching methods and practical teaching of five aspects of the teaching of Artificial Intelligence course is summarized. From the feedback of students, the teaching experience we summarized is useful for guiding new teachers to teach ? Artificial Intelligence? This course has a positive effect, it should be pointed out that we still have a lot of shortcomings, we need to make continuous efforts to improve in the future teaching process, improve their teaching ability, and strive for better teaching results.
