Ground has been broken for the OMA-designed Xinhu Hangzhou Guangling, a pyramid-shaped mixed-use building. Located in the center of Hangzhou's future science and technology city in the new technology center business district (CBD), the project was commissioned by Zhejiang Xinhu Haichuang Group. Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province and is known as one of the most beautiful cities in China with the highest quality of life. The city is rapidly developing into a major technology center, home to many of China's largest technology companies, including Alibaba Group Holding and NetEase, as well as a thriving startup scene. Hangzhou competes with Beijing and Shanghai to attract China's new economy workforce and young tech graduates. Hangzhou's Guangling is a spire reaching for the sky, echoing China's saying, "There is a paradise above, and a Suzhou-Hangzhou below". The Light Prism echoes an adjacent 35,000-square-meter residential tower, mirroring the geometry of the prism.

The OMA-designed Xinhu Hangzhou Guangliang integrates modern design into the natural beauty of its surroundings, with a mixed-use complex that will house a hotel, retail space, loft apartments, and an atrium garden. The 50,000sqm building consists of two bold diagonal cuts through the exterior of the building, creating terraced lofts with rich landscaping, and inside the building, a large space with water features and play areas that serve as accessible communal **** gardens," said Chris van Duijn, "Xinhu Hangzhou Guangliang will facilitate the development of a creative community within Hangzhou's new CBD area. The design ensures flexible planning and extensive public **** outdoor space, maintaining a strong visual identity: the forms are striking, typical and modern. " The Hangzhou Light Prism project, led by Chris van Duijn and Michalis Hadjistyllis, is scheduled for completion in 2020.
