Ulyanov's personal history

Graduated from the Shchukin Drama Academy in 1950, he worked in drama ... buried in Moscow's New Virgin Tomb on 29 March 2007, he died on March 26 at the age of 79 after a long and serious illness. Mikhail Ulyanov was known for his successful portrayal of Marshal Zhukov in major war films and epics. Mikhail Ulyanov was born in the village of Belgamak in the Omsk region and graduated from the Strugin Theater Academy in 1950. Ulyanov began his career as an actor in 1950, later he became a director. Ulyanov was the artistic director of the Evgeny Vakhtangov State Model Theater since 1987 and worked in this position until the end of his life. As the theater failed to find a suitable candidate for artistic direction, Ulyanov remained unretired in his later years despite serious illness.

Ulyanov's many years of work in the theater were characterized by a large number of distinctive and memorable roles, for which he was renowned both in the Soviet Union and in many other countries. Many of the films in which he acted are regarded as classics of Soviet cinema.

Volunteers (1958), a film about the first generation of builders of the Moscow subway, made Ulyanov a household name.

Ulyanov portrayed many profoundly important figures in his artistic career, the most famous of which are: the protagonist of The Chairman (1964), Dmitry in The Brothers Karamazov (1968), based on Dostoevsky's novel of the same name, and General Tsarnaev in The Escape (1970), based on Bulgakov's novel of the same name. (1970), based on the novel by Bulgakov. But it was Ulyanov's screen portrayal of the legendary Soviet military commander, Marshal Georgy Zhukov, that won him special favor with the Soviet people. Ulyanov himself said that Marshal Zhukov himself agreed to cast him in the role, and Ulyanov became known as the "Marshal of Soviet Cinema".

Ulyanov also left his mark on contemporary Russian cinema. His later works include the crowd-pleasing "Voroshilov's Archer" (1999) and "The Story of Victory Day" (1999).

Ulyanov played an old man in the film "The Voroshilov Archer" who, desperate for help, takes up arms to avenge the abuse of his only granddaughter.

Ulyanov plays a veteran who meets his comrades in Moscow on the eve of Victory Day, May 9, after nearly half a century of absence.
