School of Medical Devices and Food has developed from the only independent school of medical devices in China. The School of Medical Devices and Food is an important training base for senior engineering and management talents in the fields of medical devices, pharmaceutical engineering equipment, food processing and food safety quality control. In 2005, "Medical Device Engineering" was listed as a key discipline in Shanghai; undergraduate education was listed as a project of Shanghai Education Highland Construction; at the same time, it was awarded the project of Shanghai High-level Characteristics of Colleges and Universities. In 2006, "Modern Minimally Invasive Medical Devices and Technology" was listed as an engineering research center construction project of the Ministry of Education, which is the first one in local universities in Shanghai. In 2007, "Medical Engineering and Food Safety" was listed as one of the six major disciplines of Shanghai University of Science and Technology, which is the key development of the university.
