URGENT REQUEST: Cefuroxime sodium suspension 250 ml saline, two-thirds of the way through, chills and high fever occurred!

Adverse reactions to this product are uncommon and most are mild and transient. As with other cephalosporins, rare interstitial nephritis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis-relaxation (eruptive necrolysis-relaxation), and anaphylactic reactions including rash, urticaria, pruritus, drug fever, serum sickness, and very rare anaphylaxis have been reported. Gastrointestinal disturbances, including diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, have been reported in patients treated with cefuroxime. Diarrhea is uncommon and may be associated with higher doses taken. As with other broad-spectrum antimicrobials, pseudomembranous colitis has occasionally been reported. Headache has also been reported. Thrombocytopenia and leukopenia (sometimes more severe) have been reported rarely. In the treatment with Cilicin? Tablets, eosinophilia and transient increases in liver enzyme (ALT [i.e., SGPT], AST [i.e., SGOT], and LDH) levels have been reported. As with other cephalosporin antibiotics, jaundice has been reported very rarely. Cephalosporins are readily absorbed onto the surface of red blood cells and interact with antibodies against them, resulting in a positive Coomb's test (which can interfere with crossmatching) and, in very rare cases, hemolytic anemia. Contraindications Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
