2008

On May 23, 2008, China Unicom spun off its dual-network, with its CDMA network and segments 133 and 153 formally merged into China Telecom, and Unicom ceased its CDMA business, retaining its GSM network to form the new Unicom Group with China Netcom. On October 1 of the same year, the split officially began and the CDMA network was transferred to China Telecom on the same day.

On July 27, Unicom's red chip company, Unicom's operating company and Telecom's H-share company signed an agreement on the transfer of CDMA business. Ltd. to Telecom H-share Company, the transfer of 99.5% equity interest in Unicom Huasheng Telecommunications Technology Company Limited by Unicom Operating Company to Telecom H-share Company and the transfer of 100% equity interest in China Unicom (Macau) Limited by Unicom Red Chip and its subsidiaries to Telecom H-share Company and its subsidiaries, for a consideration of RMB43.8 billion in respect of the sale transaction of CDMA business. The consideration for the CDMA Business Disposal Transaction amounted to RMB43.8 billion. In tandem with the CDMA business disposal transaction, Unicom Group, Unicom New Times and Telecom Group signed the Agreement on the Transfer of CDMA Assets on the same day, which provides for the transfer of the relevant CDMA assets from Unicom Group and Unicom New Times to Telecom Group, respectively, for a consideration of RMB66.2 billion for the CDMA asset disposal transaction.

On October 15, China Netcom Red Chip and China Unicom Red Chip were formally merged into China United Network Communications Limited, and the Hong Kong-listed company of China Unicom was changed to "China Unicom Limited". The listed company of China Unicom in Hong Kong was also changed from "China Unicom Limited" to "China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited".

2009

January 6, 2009

According to the consent of the State Council, China Unicom Limited and China Network Communications Corporation were reorganized and merged, and the new company name was China United Network Communications Group Limited, with SASAC performing the responsibilities of funder on behalf of the State Council.

On January 7, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued three third-generation mobile communication (3G) licenses, marking China's official entry into the 3G era. China Unicom added 3G license based on WCDMA technology system.

On September 28, China Unicom held a press conference on the official commercialization of its Wo3G service with the theme of "3G Wonderful, Wonderful in Wo," announcing that the official commercialization of its Wo3G service would be realized in 285 cities nationwide from October 1 onwards.

On October 30, China Unicom and Apple jointly held a ceremony for the launch of iPhone at the World Trade Center in Beijing.

In December, 50 cities in 7 provinces (autonomous regions), including Guizhou, Yunnan, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Jiangxi, Gansu and Qinghai, formally launched 3G services, making China Unicom's 3G network available in 335 large and medium-sized cities. Except for 5 remote cities in Tibet, China Unicom's 3G network basically covers cities above prefecture and city level, major transportation routes and tourist spots above 4A level.

2010

On March 20, the "Ten Provinces and Thousand Counties" Women's Federation 12338 Women's Rights Public Service Hotline was opened. The hotline is maintained by China Unicom and China Telecom***. The "ten provinces" include Jilin, Changchun, Heilongjiang, Fujian, Hainan, Sichuan, Henan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Chongqing.

On June 21, China Unicom, China Telecom, China Mobile and Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding on the Xiamen-Jinmen submarine cable.

In July, China Unicom significantly reduced roaming rates for international and outbound roaming to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. China Unicom has opened voice roaming services with 398 carriers in 220 countries or regions, and GPRS/WCDMA data roaming services with 269 carriers in 143 of those countries and regions.

In August, China Unicom signed bilateral preferential roaming cooperation agreements with major operators in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. China Unicom has launched roaming business cooperation with 153 mobile operators in the Asia-Pacific region, including 24 3G operators.

On September 20, China Unicom's Singapore subsidiary officially opened, the first operating company of China Unicom in Southeast Asia. [

In November, China Unicom's "Wo Shop" was launched in Shanghai and put into use nationwide, and in December, China Unicom became the world's first and only telecom operator in China to offer international roaming services in Myanmar. By the end of the year, China Unicom had opened GPRS international roaming services with 333 operators in 170 countries and regions, and GPRS international roaming services with 294 operators in 155 countries and regions.

In 2012

China Unicom, in order to implement the "Broadband Speed Up Project" of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), launched the fiber-to-the-home project and accelerated the construction of broadband networks, contributing to the implementation of the national broadband strategy, the improvement of the Internet experience of the majority of Internet users, and the promotion of triple-play integration. On December 4, 2013, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued a fourth-generation mobile communications (4G) business license based on the TD-LTE system to China Unicom.

2014

On March 18, China Unicom announced the official commercialization of Wo 4G. [5]

On June 27, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) approved China Telecom and China Unicom to carry out mixed FDD-LTE and TD-LTE network trials in 16 cities respectively, and on August 28 the scope of the mixed network trial was expanded to 40 cities, and then on December 18 it was increased to 56 cities. While supporting state-led TD-LTE, China Telecom and China Unicom are also actively deploying mixed networking, and FDD/TDD converged networking has become the future trend of the industry **** knowledge. Global support for FDD-LTE operators more than 300, while only 30 support TD-LTE. [6]

FDD-LTE has become the most widely adopted 4G standard in the world, with the widest variety of terminals.

2015

On February 4, the Central Eighth Inspection Group gave feedback to China Unicom on its special inspection, in which the group pointed out that the main problems of Unicom were: the company's party group was not in place to implement the responsibility system for the construction of a clean and honest party, emphasizing business over party building, and the disciplinary inspection and supervisory bodies were ineffective in fulfilling their supervisory responsibilities. Some leaders and key position holders use their authority to collude with contractors and suppliers internally and externally, and engage in power and money, power and color transactions; some condone and support relatives, hometowns, or other relations in their own jurisdictions to undertake projects or set up affiliated enterprises for profit; some accept the transfer of benefits from suppliers in the children's study abroad, employment and other aspects.

2017

April 10, 2017

China Unicom plans to raise at least 30 billion yuan through the issuance of A shares, the proposed introduction of Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, as well as other state-owned enterprises as shareholders, new shareholders accounted for the proportion of the A share capital may reach about 20%, the plan may be finalized in June-July. On July 27, China Unicom said it would eliminate domestic roaming fees for cell phones starting Sept. 1 of the same year. [9]

August, China Unicom nearly 80 billion mixed reform program came out, the introduction of private strategic investors, Tencent invested 11 billion yuan, accounting for 5.21%; Baidu 7 billion yuan, accounting for 3.31%; Alibaba 4.33 billion yuan, accounting for 2.05%; Jingdong 5 billion yuan, accounting for 2.36%; Suning 4 billion yuan, accounting for 1.88%; Lightspeed Interconnect Technology 4 billion yuan, accounting for 1.88%; Huaihai Ark Information Fund 4 billion yuan, accounting for 1.88%; Xinquan Fund 700 million yuan, accounting for 0.33%. The state-owned portion of the two, China Life 21.7 billion yuan, accounting for 10.22%; accepting the old shares of China State-owned Enterprises Structural Adjustment Fund 12.975 billion yuan, accounting for 6.11%. In the evening of December 26, 2017, the signing ceremony between China Unicom and the Organizing Committee of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games was held in the China Unicom building. This signing marks China Unicom officially becoming the official communication service partner of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics, and among the highest level sponsors of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee's market development program. On February 8, China Unicom announced that the company's Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders considered and passed the "Motion on the Change of the Company's Board of Directors and Election of Directors for the Sixth Board of Directors" ****14 sub-motions. The Company's Board of Directors was renewed in advance, and Wang Xiaochu, Lu Yimin, Li Fushen, Yin Zhaojun, Lu Shan, Li Yanhong, Liao Jianwen, and Hu Xiaoming were elected as non-independent directors of the Company's Sixth Board of Directors; and Feng Shidong, Wu Xiaogan, Lv Tingjie, Chen Jianxin, and Xiong Xiaogou were elected as independent directors of the Company's Sixth Board of Directors. In addition, the proposal for the renewal of the Supervisory Committee of the Company and the election of Supervisors of the Sixth Supervisory Committee of the Company was also passed, and the Supervisory Committee was renewed in advance. In April, a provincial company of China Unicom was conducting a 2G base station frequency reduction and service retirement and exchange activity, and proposed to shut down 101 base stations with low voice service. [13]

June 22, China Unicom issued a notice: to further implement the requirements of the State Council to speed up and reduce fees, since July 1, 2018, China Unicom canceled the traffic "roaming" fee. [14]

In July 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued operating licenses to the first batch of 15 enterprises that signed a contract with China United Network Communications Group Limited (CUNCG), approving them to operate mobile communications resale businesses.The list of the 15 mobile communications resale enterprises: Suzhou Snail Digital Technology Company Limited (SNDT), Shenzhen YouYou Interconnection Company Limited (YYIC), Reddit Group Company Limited (RGL), YuanTe (Beijing) Communication Technology Company Limited (FTC), Alibaba Yunyao Technology Co. On August 6, 2018, China Unicom's 5G Innovation Center was inaugurated.The establishment of the 5G Innovation Center was tentatively set at 253 people. [16]

On August 10, 2018, China Unicom announced a significant reduction in international/Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan roaming tariffs from the 10th. The tariff reduction covers both voice and data services, with tariff reductions averaging more than 40%, with the maximum reduction as high as 97%. [17]

On September 29, 2018, China Unicom joined hands with Huawei to perform the first domestic 5G off-site ensemble concert. [18] In October, China United Network Communications Co. and Kingdee International Software Group Co. signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing. [19] On October 19, China Unicom established an operating company in Hanoi, Vietnam, its 12th branch in the "Belt and Road" region. The company's name is China Unicom (Vietnam) Operations Co. [20] On October 31, China Unicom and Shougang Group held a strategic partnership signing ceremony at Shougang Park, where the two sides will work together to make Shougang Park the first 5G demonstration park in China. 2019

On June 6, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) officially issued a 5G commercial license to China Unicom. [23] In August, China Unicom signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Gree Electric. [24] In October, at the 2019 Industrial Internet Global Summit, China Unicom announced that its Cloud Dysprosium Industrial Internet Platform was officially launched for online operation. [25]

2020

On February 27, 2020, China Unicom presented 520 yuan in phone bills and provided downtime-free services to Unicom users among the medical personnel who went to Hubei. Branches around the country actively implemented downtime-free services for frontline medical personnel in the fight against the epidemic and gave phone bill reductions, which has benefited 6,576 medical personnel, of which 2,796 supported medical personnel in Hubei. [26] In April 2020, the company was selected by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council as a "Model Enterprise for Science and Technology Reform". [27]
