Difference between hermeticity test and pressurization test

In the field of industrial manufacturing, many products need to carry out air tightness test and pressurization test, so what are they exactly?

Note: 1 megapascal (Mpa)? =?1000 kilopascals (Kpa)

The air tightness test and the pressurization test have their own focus, but the purpose is to improve the reliability and safety of the product. Conducting these tests correctly is an important part of manufacturing high quality products.

The difference between a hermeticity test and a compression test

Simply put, a hermeticity test is the process of pressurizing a product with a gas, and then detecting whether the pressure will leak to determine whether the product is watertight.

For example, think of an electric toothbrush that you use every day, if it's not waterproof you can't charge it properly, so make sure it's sealed and waterproof.

Electric toothbrushes need to be airtight and waterproof

The compression test uses a higher gas pressure to load the product, which can test the product's compressive strength. If the product deforms or ruptures under high pressure, the product is not strong enough.

For example, when pressurizing a new energy cell, a knockdown test is needed to make sure it doesn't break under high pressure. This is different from the hermeticity test, which focuses on the sealing and waterproofing of the product.

What products need to do air tightness testing?

For example, household appliances, automobile parts, medical equipment, and we all commonly used in the daily life of the cell phone, flat panel, as long as the airtightness of the high performance requirements of the product, usually need to be tested.

Specifically, like air conditioning, electric kettle and other home appliances, their internal need to have a good airtight, otherwise it will affect the use of performance; automobile engine parts, cartridges, also need to ensure that the airtight, otherwise it will lead to failures; medical equipment, such as respiratory equipment is required to airtight performance, otherwise it will jeopardize the health of patients. In addition, smartphones and tablet PCs should also be airtight to prevent the intrusion of dust and other things.

With airtightness testing as a safeguard, we can use these products without worrying about the problems associated with poor airtightness.

So what products need to be pressure tested?

Aerospace components, piping equipment, pressure vessels, and new energy batteries all need to be pressure tested.

Because they are subjected to high internal and external pressures in use, it is important to ensure that their mechanical strength is sufficient to withstand high pressures. Otherwise ruptures or other accidents may occur. So these products need to be adequately pressurized and tested at the design and development stage.
