Jianwai Street
Jianguomenwai Street belongs to Jianwai Street. Jianguomenwai Street is a street located in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, China, on the eastern extension of Chang'an Street. It is named for its location outside the Jianguomen Gate in the inner city of Beijing. The site of Jianguomen was originally the city wall of Beijing's inner city. In 1939, during the Japanese occupation of Beiping, a section of the city wall was removed from Jianguomen and Fuxingmen in order to build an industrial area in the eastern suburb and a "New Beijing" in the western suburb, creating an opening.
The city gates were not constructed at that time, and only simple iron railings (or iron gates) were installed.
In the early 1940s, the Japanese authorities proposed the names of the gates of the newly-opened gates, and initially decided to name the eastern gates "Qimingmen" (meaning "Rising Sun Opens the Day") and the western gates "Changchangmen" (meaning "Changshi"). West openings name "Chang'anmen", but the delay in the official use, people still call these two places for "open". After the victory in the war of resistance against Japan, in November 1945, changed the Qiming Gate for "Jianguo Gate".
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jianwai area belonged to Daxing County. In the 14th year of the Republic of China (1925), it belonged to the second suburb of Beiping.
In February 1949, belonging to the fourteenth district of Beiping City, the precincts of Tucheng (today's Dongdaqiao Road and flour ten factories) as the boundary, divided into east and west.
In 1952, it belonged to the eastern suburb.
In 1954, the western part of the district belonged to Dongbianmen Street, and the eastern part belonged to Qishengmiao Township.
In 1955, the eastern suburbs were transferred to Dongdan District.
In March 1956, the eastern part of the district belonged to Xiaozhuang Street, and in April 1959, Dongbimen Street was merged into Chaowai Street, which was located at No. 290 Chaowai Street.
In 1960, the street was changed to a commune, with the east and west belonging to Xiaozhuang Commune and Chaowai Commune.
In 1968, the eastern and western parts of the street were divided into Dazhai Road (Hujialou) Street and Chaowai Street.
