Organizational Overview of China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation

The purpose of the Foundation is to promote the development of China's audiology, rehabilitation and medical care, research and education, and to raise funds to help more deaf people in hearing and speech rehabilitation.

The China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation has always abided by the purpose of the Association, actively advocating hearing health care awareness, mobilizing social forces, raising charitable funds, and cooperating with the relevant government departments in the prevention of deafness and treatment of deafness science and knowledge publicity, poverty alleviation, old age and orphans and other public service activities, give full play to its special social functions, in order to change the country's "ten deaf, nine mute", and the "deaf". Nine out of ten deaf and mute" situation in China has made due contribution. In particular, the launch of the China Children's Hearing Health Care Miles, for the enhancement of public awareness of the prevention and treatment of deafness, has played a very positive role in promoting, and has been highly evaluated by all sectors of society.

The Foundation accepts donations from enterprises, associations and individuals at home and abroad who are enthusiastic about public welfare, and the funds raised are used to subsidize surveys of the current state of hearing in impoverished areas, popularize knowledge of hearing health care; to help impoverished deaf people undergo rehabilitation and medical treatment; to subsidize the establishment of audiological medical research institutes to carry out research on the basic theories and clinical medical research; to subsidize training of audiological professionals, and the establishment of hearing rehabilitation and language training institutes.

In the new journey, the Council will, as always, maintain a strong sense of social responsibility and sense of mission, follow the purpose of the Association, and strive to promote the prevention and treatment of deafness, improve people's hearing health care, so that the situation of "ten deaf and nine mute" has been gradually improved. Tai Lihua, graduated from Yichang Special Education School, is a deaf dancer, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a non-partisan member of the CPPCC, head of China Disabled People's Art Troupe, a dancer and artistic director, vice-chairman of the China Association for the Special Arts, and vice-chairman of the All-China Youth Federation.

Tai Lihua lost her hearing at the age of 2 when she was injected with streptomycin for a high fever, and since then she has entered a silent world. But she created art in a unique way, becoming a lead dancer in the China Disabled People's Art Troupe at the age of 15. She graduated from the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts with a bachelor's degree from 1994-1998, was a teacher at Wuhan No. 1 School for the Deaf and Mute from 1998-1999, and entered the Art Troupe of the Federation of the Handicapped of Hubei Province from 1999-2003. She was transferred to Beijing's China Disabled People's Art Troupe in August 2002, where she was the head of the actor's team, and was also the At the age of 28, she became the artistic director and shaped the special art classic "My Dream". She led the dance "Thousand Hands of Guanyin" which shocked the world at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, and performed the dance "Thousand Hands of Guanyin" at the 2005 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. She was honored as "Moving China" 2005 Person of the Year; she created and starred in the miniature dance drama "Butterfly", a sensation at UNESCO headquarters.

She is a women's committee member who strives to "make her voice heard" and defends the rights of the disabled. During her tenure as a member of the CPPCC, Tai Lihua's proposals have all been related to the protection of the rights and interests of the disabled. This year, she will submit three proposals: to include the qualification of special teachers in the teacher's qualification certificate; to put the screening of deafness-causing genes into the pre-marriage or pre-pregnancy examination program; and to suggest that the CCTV take the lead in synchronizing subtitles for news broadcasts and live broadcasts of major events.

Tai Lihua had submitted a proposal to allow the disabled to drive at the 2009 sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC), and in the following year, the Ministry of Public Security relaxed the restriction so that five categories of disabled people could apply for driver's licenses; at the 2010 sessions of the NPC, she called for screening of disabled children to be included in routine checkups, so that they can be detected and treated at an early stage, which is now being implemented in various parts of the country as well.

Major Events

In December 2015, the foundation donated books worth 1.25 million yuan to the Chifeng Disabled Persons' Federation and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Disabled Persons' Federation for reading by teachers and students of special education schools in the two regions.

On May 9, 2015, the Foundation and the China Mayors' Association*** co-organized the fourth "The World Laughs From Now On" China Project-Charity Night. Ms. Hu Muying, President of Beijing Yan'an Sons and Daughters Association and daughter of famous Chinese political theorist Hu Qiaomu, Mr. Xu Chaoyou, Director of International Department of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CIEX), and Mr. Fan Xiaotian, Secretary General of China Children's Rare Disease Public Welfare Fund, were awarded as Volunteers of the Year 2014. Mr. Xu Yongguang, Vice Chairman of Nandu Public Welfare Foundation, founder of Project Hope and famous publicist, Mr. Tang Shizeng, famous media personality and chief reporter of Xinhua News Agency, Mr. Wang Zhifei, famous actor, and Mr. Zhang Singsheng, Chairman of the Old Cow Foundation, chief representative of The Nature Conservancy in Asia-Pacific, and famous publicist, were named Honorary Volunteers.

On May 23, 2014, the Foundation and the China Mayors' Association jointly organized the "The World Laughs From Now On" China Project-Charity Night at the China Millennium Forum***, which honored government leaders, celebrities, and caring individuals who contributed to the China Project in 2013 and publicized this year's project. The event recognized government leaders, celebrities, and benefactors who contributed to the China Project in 2013 and promoted this year's program. Peking University Post EMBA College donated RMB 2 million to Stantec's "The World Laughs Forever" China Program, **** and carried out relief activities for the hearing impaired. On May 15, 2013, the Foundation and the China Mayors' Association*** co-organized the "The World Laughs From Now On" China Project-Charity Night event, which honored government leaders, celebrities, and caring individuals for their contributions. The event presented plaques and certificates to meritorious volunteers: Ms. Li Min, daughter of Mao Zedong, daughter of Liu Shaoqi, Ms. Liu Aiqin, niece of Zhou Enlai, Ms. Zhou Bingde, daughter of Chen Yun, and Ms. Chen Weili, daughter of Chen Yun. July 2012, with the American Stantec Hearing Foundation*** started Stantec's "The World Laughs From Now On" China program in China. The program helped 6,338 people with hearing loss and donated 12,830 hearing aids.

July 2012, the Foundation donated a total of 1 million yuan worth of hearing aids to the Shenyang Municipal Welfare Foundation for the Disabled, and 270,000 yuan worth of hearing aids to the impoverished county of Zhangwu County.

In March 2012, "Women Mayors Aier Charity Fund" and China Women's Newspaper, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council Bureau of Mass Work, the China Development Strategy Research, China Mayors Association of Women Mayors Branch organized "Women Mayors Aier Charity Fund" charity night in Beijing, 500 women mayors and women mayors. "Public welfare night, 500 female entrepreneurs and caring people attended the event and raised 2 million yuan.

In March 2012, the Foundation and the Guanghua Foundation cooperation held a "love the future" charity painting and calligraphy, inviting well-known painters to the scene. The Foundation donated 26 paintings and calligraphy by famous artists, and 178 paintings and calligraphy in honor of the 110th anniversary of Liu Shaoqi.

In 2012, the Foundation set up a special fund for FedEx, donating RMB 1 million to the Foundation, which was designated to be used for relief activities for poor deaf children.

In September 2011, Sonova Hearing Group set up the "Sonova Scholarship" in the Foundation's Fuchong Education Fund to support the School of Biomedical Engineering of Capital Medical University in organizing audiology education, and to encourage young scholars and students who have outstanding achievements in audiology research and application.

In July 2011, the Sonova Education Foundation organized the "Love to be Heard" public service training activity in Anhui Province. The training lasted three days and provided training for 246 teachers from the grassroots level. The aim was to improve the quality of hearing and speech rehabilitation education and the professionalization of rehabilitation education.

In February 2011, the Lao Niu Foundation donated 1 million yuan to the Mayor's Al Charity Fund for cochlear implantation for poor deaf children. Mr. Niu Gensheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Mr. Tao Siliang, Chairman of the Board of Directors, performed the donation ceremony. The program is strongly supported by the North Medical Third Hospital and BaoDiKang Company.

In 2010, Wan Min donated RMB 5.9 million to the foundation, and Shenzhen Nanfang Tongzheng Investment Co., Ltd. donated RMB 3 million as the original fund of the foundation.

On June 15, 2009, the Foundation and the PLA General Hospital jointly initiated the "Aier Qicong China Tour" large-scale public welfare activities. The Foundation and the People's Liberation Army General Hospital jointly launched the "Aier Qixing China Walk", a large-scale public welfare activity, to carry out joint hearing and genetic screening for newborns, to realize early detection, diagnosis and prevention of deafness, and to reduce the incidence of deafness in China.

On April 26, 2008, the First China Hearing Career Summit Forum and the Expert Committee Meeting of China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation were held. China's hearing medicine health care, hearing science development and charity to help the disabled cause of the large-scale summit forum, gathered covering the country's neural otology, otosurgery, hearing science, biomedical engineering science and other aspects of the prestigious nearly 100 experts and scholars. From April 21 to 27, 2008, experts and scholars from the China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation and the Clinical Hearing Medicine Center of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery of the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), jointly assisted by the Shandong Disabled Persons Federation (SDPF), the People's Government of Rizhao City, and the Municipal Disabled Persons Federation (MDPF), and the Board of Education of the Municipal Disabled Persons Federation (MDPF), carried out the screening and diagnostic work on the susceptibility genes of deafness for the deaf children and their parents around the Rizhao City of Shandong Province.

On November 2, 2007, in cooperation with the China Association of Mayors, the Foundation launched the "China's Poor Deaf Children Rescue Action Ten Thousand Signature Activity", mobilizing celebrities and the public to sign the "China's Poor Deaf Children Rescue Action" initiative. The "Colorful Larks Flying into Guangdong" charity dinner was held simultaneously, and 1 million yuan of donations were received.

The "Help the Deaf and Rehabilitation - Yanshan Banquet" charity dinner was held in Beijing, and the little actors of the Little Lark Art Troupe raised 2.8 million yuan.

December 1, 2006, with the China Rehabilitation and Research Center for Deaf Children *** with the establishment of the "talented little painter" special fund. It breaks through the scope of pure relief to help hearing-impaired children to seek development. Advocating for self-reliance and self-improvement of people with disabilities.

In May 2006, the Parent-Child Training Program was launched, with three volumes of training materials prepared and more than 100 parents trained.

On February 23-24, 2006, my project "Parent-Child Training Course on Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation Training for Impoverished Deaf Children" was selected as one of the '2006 China Development Market' sponsored by the World Bank, the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

On November 25, 2005, the deaf children in Bin County, Shaanxi Province received financial support from the Foundation (donated by the Austrian Cochlear Implant Medical and Electronic Instrument Company), and the cochlear implant surgery was performed by Prof. Li-Sheng Yu, a member of the Expert Committee of the Society.

On August 12, 2005, Tai Lihua, the "Thousand-handed Goddess of Mercy", was appointed as the "Ambassador of Love" of the China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation at a press conference held in the Science and Technology Building of the Ministry of Health. Leaders from the Ministry of Health and other relevant ministries and commissions, experts and scholars attended the ceremony.

On March 3, 2005, the sixth "Ear Care Day", hearing impaired children rescued by the China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation underwent cochlear implant surgeries in Beijing, which was covered by a large number of media outlets, including Beijing Television, to promote more public care for hearing impaired children.

On January 26, 2005, Kerry Cereals & Oils Business Development (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. made a donation of RMB 300,000 to the Cochlear Implant Special Fund set up by the Foundation to subsidize cochlear implant surgeries for two deaf children.

On December 3, 2004, the International Day of Disabled Persons, the Vice President of the Foundation, Mr. Qu Zu, and Mr. Liang Tao attended the launching ceremony of the Cochlear Implant Fund of the "Rehabilitation of Hearing Impairment Project", and Xinhua News Agency issued a nationwide circular to publicize the event, which was reprinted in a large number of media outlets. The public has since gained a new understanding of cochlear implantation, realizing that hearing-impaired children have the same possibilities as able-bodied children to integrate into society.

October 17-23, 2004, initiated by the Foundation, the Ministry of Scientific Research and Education undertook the implementation of the first "National Training Course for Hearing Aid Selectors", specially invited the People's Liberation Army General Hospital, Union Hospital, Tongren Hospital and other renowned professors to give lectures to the 40 students. The first "National Training Course for Hearing Aid Selectors" was held in China. Officials from the Department of Medical Affairs and the Department of Personnel of the Ministry of Health attended the opening and closing ceremonies, which was a solid step towards the professionalization of the national audiological institutions.

On June 23, 2004, the Foundation held a press conference for the "Heavenly Melody Reproduction" large-scale public welfare propaganda activity at the Great Hall of the People, attended by Peng Peiyun, vice chairman of the National People's Congress, and leaders of the relevant ministries and commissions, and Tao Shiliang, chairman of the Organizing Committee, delivered a speech on behalf of the Organizing Committee. Thousands of deaf children sang the national anthem in sign language and watched the flag-raising activity. Famous singers Han Hong, Sun Yue, Lin Yilun and Sha Baoliang attended the event.

February 20-22, 2004, at the invitation of Hong Kong to participate in the China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation (Hong Kong) to Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, "Love Mission", the Foundation's Secretary General, Mr. Leung Tao, led a medical team to Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, to carry out clinic activities, and donated hearing aids to the Federation of the Disabled. On March 2, 1998, Ms. Lei Xiangping, Director General of the China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation (Hong Kong), commissioned by Mr. Yuan Hanyuan, Chairman of the Foundation, accompanied by Mr. Liang Tao, Secretary General of the Hearing Foundation, Mr. Sun, Vice President of the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation, and Mr. Shen, Director of the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation, paid a visit to the Tongshan School for the Deaf and the deaf children's language training class in Gangtou Town, Xinyi City. On December 5, 1997, the China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation (Hong Kong) was established. Secretary General Liang Tao had working exchanges with charitable organizations in Hong Kong and was interviewed by reporters from South China Morning Post, Sing Tao Daily, Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po respectively, and also visited rehabilitation institutions for deaf children in Hong Kong accompanied by Ms. Lei Xiangping, Director General of the China Hearing Medicine (Hong Kong) Development Foundation. Mr. Yuan Hanyuan, chairman of the board of directors of Hong Kong's Man Yue Group, donated instruments, equipment and ambulances valued at more than 1.8 million yuan to the foundation, and enterprises in Xuzhou City donated materials to the foundation. December 7, 1995, China Hearing Medicine Development Foundation initiated the "China Children's Hearing Health Care Miles" activities kicked off, the first organization of the medical team, led by Tan Yunhe, President, Liang Tao, Secretary General, went to Yixian County, Hebei Province, Pingshan County, Baoding, Shijiazhuang City, etc., free of charge, preschool children to do systematic hearing tests.
