How to Measure Your Life Lessons

How Do You Measure Your Life Insights? How You're Going to Measure Your Life, by Christensen, features a book in which the author applies the MBA business theories he learned to the planning of his life. He suggests that a good life for everyone should consist of three parts: a good career, close relationships such as family and friends, and integrity. Seeing this, I can't help but be reminded of Mencius, whose old man had three joys that surprisingly coincide with this Harvard professor, who is more than 2,300 years apart - "to look up and not be ashamed of heaven and to look down and not be ashamed of the earth* (uprightness)," "Parents are all alive and brothers have no cause (intimacy)," and "Get the world's talents and educate them (career)." I can't help but marvel at the fact that these two great men who stood at the source of knowledge really painted the same landscape for us and pointed in the same direction.

So, how do we by should live our lives?

One, career

I think a good career does not lie in the fact that you are rich or powerful, but in the fact that you have created value for the society. Whether it is Adler's "Inferiority and Transcendence" or Solomon's "Fear of Death" have explained to people the truth that life is born with an inferiority complex (the fear of death), which is also a strong driving force for the survival of the individual and the evolution of mankind. And in order to overcome the inferiority complex (fear of death) within you, you have to have a link with the society, connect your value with the social value, and dedicate yourself to the society. In giving to society, you are constantly improving yourself and reflecting your personal values. I think that this psychological phenomenon and our primitive life environment is related, in primitive society, once a person out of the group, alone, then he is not far from death, it is the result of natural selection, for us to leave this psychological trait.

Then, in order to make yourself happier when engaging in your career, people need to remind themselves to focus on the value you create for society and for others. Instead of, how much money I make in a day. That's what Confucius said, "If you put your money where your profits are, you'll have more complaints".

Two: Intimacy

If anything, our instinctive fear of death is a negative energy. Well, the good news is that we also have positive energy that is love. In intimate relationships, we gain the positive power of love, and this power will greatly help us to combat our fear of death.

One more word about our time with our parents. As children grow up, they surpass their parents in many ways, and so many people begin to "parent their parents", often pointing out their parents' faults. Hellinger's Family Sequencing Theory states that when a child blames his or her parents, he or she is actually pointing a hand at his or her own heart. (You can imagine an image of a father or mother crouching on the ground and you point your finger at him.) Confucius said, "As for dogs and horses, they can all be nurtured; if they are not honored, how can they be distinguished?" We should remember the meaning of filial piety and respect, and avoid going against the "way".
