Why do products exported to Korea have to be KC certified and what are the main items tested in KC certification?

In order to make consumers more aware of the certification mark on the products they buy, and to reduce the cost of various certifications borne by product manufacturers, the Korea Advanced Institute of Technology and Standards (KATS) announced on August 20, 2008 that it would implement a new certification system, KC (Korea Certification) Certification, on January 1, 2009, which will take effect from July 2009 at the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy. The program will be implemented in the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) from July 2009 and is expected to be expanded to all sectors by the end of 2010.

The plan to implement the KC mark is as follows:

December 2008: Revision of the Basic Law on National Standards and its Enforcement Decree;

July 2009: The Ministry of Knowledge Economy will start implementing and adopting the national unified KC mark;

January 2009-December 2010: Amendment of the law related to standards certification;

January 2011: The law will be amended to include the KC mark in the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. p>January 2011: Application of the KC Mark to all certifications.

KC Mark Certification Products List (KC Certified Products List) According to the Korean Electrical Appliance Safety Control Act, the safety certification of electrical products since January 1, 2009 has been divided into two types: mandatory certification and self-regulatory (voluntary) certification.

Mandatory certification refers to: mandatory products belonging to all electronic products must be certified by the KC Mark before they can be sold in the Korean market. It is required to undergo a factory review and product sampling test every year.

Self-regulatory (voluntary) certification means: all electronic products belonging to the voluntary products only need to be tested to obtain the certificate, do not need to undergo factory inspection. The certificate is valid for 5 years.
