The 5G era is coming. Both the speeches of politicians, businessmen and academics at the first Digital China Construction Summit and the display of the first Digital China Construction Achievement Exhibition have brought new expectations to the market.
The first Digital China Construction Achievement Exhibition continued in Fuzhou on the 25th. At the exhibition site, China United Network Communications Group Corp. brought 5G (fifth-generation mobile communications) test base stations and demonstrated a robot goalie stopping a hockey puck under a 5G network; China Mobile Communications Group Corp. showed the latest technological achievements in 5G technology, e-government, big data, Internet of Things and other aspects.
The China Academy of Information and Communications Research (CAICR) showed China's journey toward 5G: 30 base stations have been built in Huairou, Beijing, to meet the demand of enterprises for outfield equipment testing with the world's largest 5G test network; the first version of the international standard for 5G will be completed in June this year, and the third phase of the 5G R&D test will be completed by the end of this year; 16 cities, such as Beijing, Fuzhou, and other cities, have already carried out the 5G large-scale group network construction and application demonstration pilot.
"2018 is a critical year for 5G standardization and product development." Liu Duo, president of the China Academy of Information and Communications Research, said China has formed the world's largest network scale and user market, as well as a complete industrial chain system, and is in need of actively exploring 5G applications and business models, "China, which has been a follower in 2G, a breakthrough in 3G, and a parallel runner in 4G, is striving to achieve a lead in the upcoming 5G era."
China's 5G development was launched in 2012. At the beginning of the following year, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and others jointly set up the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group to co-ordinate the promotion of 5G-related work.In 2016, China began 5G key technology trials.
China Mobile has taken the lead in setting up the 5G Joint Innovation Center to accelerate the realization of 5G commercial scale. China Mobile Chairman Shang Bing said at the main forum of the summit that China Mobile will accelerate the research, development and application of key technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence, strengthen 5G key technology research and standards leadership, and promote the end-to-end maturity of the 5G industry.
Wen Ku, director of the Department of Information and Communication Development of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said he hopes to launch the first 5G handset in the second half of next year; the commercialization of 5G is planned to effectively support vertical applications such as the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) and the Industrial Internet (IIoT).
"China's 5G is not a closed 5G," Wenku emphasized, adding that China and Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea have set up 5G cooperation mechanisms, and major communication equipment vendors around the world have participated in China's 5G trials and **** the same task of undertaking 5G tasks; the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group has also absorbed world-renowned mobile operators such as Ericsson, Nokia , Qualcomm and other world-renowned mobile communication enterprises.
"The most difficult part of 5G is the application, which needs our vertical industry, operation industry and production and manufacturing enterprises*** to cooperate together to build it." Wenku emphasized that 5G promotes interconnectivity, and that it is important to join hands at home and abroad to ****build an ecosystem.
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wu Hequan, chairman of the Internet Society of China, said high-resolution images, wide coverage, low-latency 5G technology is more aimed at the industrial Internet, the Internet of Things and other industrial applications, it is expected that "in the future, not only the entertainment, the new education, medical care, as well as a wide variety of brand-new cultural and creative ideas will be from the 5G inside out "
Lei Jun, vice president of technology at New Shoreline, which released the ultra-high-speed wireless communications technology EUHT (5G), believes that 5G's characteristics of high speed rate, multiple connections and short latency will bring about a huge change in people's lives, as well as broad market opportunities for Chinese companies.
"China's 5G development is open and integrated into the global and the whole process of economic and social development." Qin Hai, inspector and deputy director of the Informatization Development Bureau of the State Internet Information Office, said.
Yang Xiaowei, deputy director of the State Internet Information Office, also pointed out that China and 12 countries along the "Belt and Road" have built 34 cross-border land cables and a number of international submarine cables, and the "online Silk Road is initially taking shape", and the breakthroughs in 5G network technology and the construction of modern information infrastructure provide strong support for this. The company is also working on the construction of a modern information infrastructure to provide strong support for the project.
