Shenzhou VII is about to be launched in Jiuquan. Why is it called Jiuquan Launch Center instead of soaring in the blue sky?

Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center is the earliest launch test base for launch vehicles in China. It was built in 1958, with an altitude of 1000m and an area of about 2800km2. It is located in Ejina Banner in the north of Jiuquan City, Gansu Province (Siziwangqi is the landing site of Shenzhou 5 manned spacecraft). Because of its desolate location, the nearest city is Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, hence its name. The region belongs to inland and desert climate, with flat terrain, sparsely populated, little rain all the year round, long days, annual average temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius and relative humidity of 35%-55%. The environmental conditions are very suitable for satellite launch, and the launch test can be carried out for about 300 days every year. This base is the main base for the Long March series of launch vehicles, various test satellites in low and medium orbits and application satellites. By the end of 1990, China had launched 30 artificial satellites, 20 of which were launched in Jiuquan. Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center has large, medium and small launch sites as well as meteorological and sounding rockets. The name of Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center is Dongfeng Aerospace City, and the entry about Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Cihai is interpreted as "located in the northeast of Jiuquan City, Gansu Province". This explanation misled many people. The actual and accurate geographical location is Ejina Banner, Alxa League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
