Xi Tingfei's Xi Tingfei-Personal Profile

Graduated from Xi'an High School in 1968, graduated from Northwestern University in 1975, majoring in polymer, and graduated from Peking University Medical Center as a postgraduate student with a master's degree in medicine in 1982. He was the director of the Medical Devices Inspection Center of the China National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceuticals and Biological Products (CCICPBP) in 1983-2008, and worked at the National Institute of Pharmaceuticals and Food Hygiene (NICPFH) as a visiting researcher in Japan from 1991-1993. In 1995, he worked at the Therapeutic Goods Administration of the Australian Department of Health (international visiting scholar).

Currently, he is the director of the Center for Biomedical Materials and Tissue Engineering at the Institute of Frontier Interdisciplinary Research of Peking University, and the director of the Center for Biomedical Engineering at the Shenzhen Research Institute of Peking University, as well as a researcher and doctoral supervisor. He is also a member of the Pharmaceutical and Device Group of the National Science and Technology Award Committee, a member of the Eighth and Ninth Discipline Review Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a member of the Seventh Scientific and Technological Expert Committee of the State Planning and Health Care Commission, an expert of the State Food and Drug Administration in the review of new drugs, an expert of the State Food and Drug Administration in the review of medical devices, an expert of the Expert Advisory Panel of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, an expert of the 863 Stem Cells and Tissue Knowledge Engineering Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, an expert of the Overall Expert Group of the Chinese Biomedical Engineering He is also an expert of the Overall Expert Group of 863 Stem Cells and Group Knowledge Engineering Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, vice president of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, former president of the Biomaterials Branch, president of the Interventional Medical Engineering Branch, vice president of the Tissue Engineering Branch, vice chairman of the Biomaterials Committee of China, vice chairman of the Biomaterials Branch of the China Materials Research Society, general advisor of the China Clinical Rehabilitation Magazine, vice editor-in-chief of the Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering, and chairman of the Technical Committee for Standardization of Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices. Chairman of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Medical Devices. He is also a member of the Academic Committee of the National Center for Biomaterials Engineering, and Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of Shanghai Key Laboratory of Orthopaedic Endoprosthesis.

Xi Tingfei said, the medical device industry is characterized by a variety of disciplines and complexity; strict requirements for product safety and effectiveness, and acceptance of the government's full supervision and management; and a long product development cycle, which usually takes three to five years. However, China's medical equipment is currently the problem of insufficient research and development capabilities, weak innovation, lack of technical reserves, research equipment and support conditions are poor, adapted to the lack of scientific and technological talent for enterprise development. Although from the "Tenth Five-Year" began to increase national support for biomedical engineering centers, and formally included in the national medium- and long-term science and technology development plan, but the lack of investment in R & D, especially the problem of low investment in the enterprise has not been fundamentally resolved.

Xi Tingfei believes that China is becoming a big producer of medical devices, but how to make China become a strong producer of medical devices is an issue that deserves in-depth consideration. The development of China's medical device industry should learn the lessons of DVD. Domestic enterprises should focus on mastering a number of key technologies to improve their core competitiveness, and adhere to the combination of innovation and introduction, with independent innovation as the main focus. The country has established a number of biomaterials, tissue engineering and digital diagnostic and treatment equipment research and industrialization centers, how to make these centers become a new technology platform combining industry, academia and research, and how to make it really work will have an important impact on the development of medical device industrialization.

When talking about how to speed up the development of medical devices in China, Xi suggested that new technologies should be adopted to reduce the cost of large medical equipment to reduce the burden on patients and to accommodate a larger range of people seeking medical treatment. Through the development of national industry, to suppress the price of imported high-grade medical equipment, practice has proved that when the domestic medical equipment products on the market, the price of imported medical equipment will often have a very substantial reduction, such as domestic artificial crystals on the market, the imported products from the original 1,000 yuan each down to 300 yuan each. At the same time, it is necessary to rationalize the allocation of resources to reduce waste.
