Where do male sperm come from?

Sperm is produced by testis, and seminal plasma is secreted by prostate, seminal vesicle gland and urethral ball gland. Semen is an organic mixture. The seminal plasma contains fructose and protein, which are nutrients of sperm, prostaglandin and some enzymes.

Normal semen is milky white or yellowish, and the number of sperm per milliliter is generally between 60 million and 200 million. Sperm with fluidity accounts for more than 60% of the total. Abnormal sperm should be less than 10% of the total. Sperm motility lasts for 3-4 hours at room temperature.

Extended data

Scientists from the University of Southern Denmark studied the sleeping habits of more than 1000 male participants aged around 20, and collected semen samples of the participants for sperm quality assessment. The results showed that the number of sperm of participants who often stayed up late, were disturbed or suffered from insomnia many times at night was 29% less than that of participants who slept normally. The examination found that the testicles of young men with insufficient sleep also became significantly smaller.

Scientists point out that lack of sleep leads to a decrease in the number of sperm in men, which is closely related to unhealthy lifestyles. Such people are fatter, drink more and smoke more. Sleep problems can also lower testosterone levels.

Experts remind that the number of male sperm has been declining in recent years, which has seriously affected fertility. The reasons include poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, and even chemicals that easily lead to "degradation" in the environment. However, the influence of sleep patterns on fertility has not been recognized. For men, the ideal rest time is to get enough sleep for 7-8 hours every night.

People's Daily Online-Scientists have discovered for the first time that if you don't get enough sleep, your sperm will decrease by 30%.
