Research Status of China Institute of Cultural Relics

China Institute of Cultural Relics has a series of large-scale scientific research equipment for cultural relics protection. Among them, scanning electron microscope, infrared spectrometer, X-ray diffractometer, large cavity and portable X-ray fluorescence analyzer, ion chromatograph, parylene vapor-phase vacuum precipitation equipment, vacuum freeze-drying equipment, phenological environment test box, universal material testing machine, soft X-ray instrument, XGT fluorescence spectrometer, C- 14 analyzer, ethylene oxide fumigation equipment, vacuum freeze-drying equipment, color difference meter, Portable environmental analyzer is in the forefront of China in scale and performance. It can analyze and detect cultural relics of various textures, study their organizational structure and destruction mechanism, and provide reliable data and information for cultural relics protection and restoration.

China Heritage Research Institute has eight professional laboratories and one mobile laboratory:

Mural protection and restoration laboratory: mainly carries out mural disease analysis and detection, cause analysis and mural protection and restoration work.

Paper and textile protection and restoration laboratory: mainly engaged in paper and textile cultural relics disease detection, cause analysis, screening test of protective materials and protection and restoration.

Laboratory for protection and restoration of stone cultural relics: mainly engaged in disease detection, cause analysis, screening test of protective materials and protection and restoration of stone cultural relics.

Metal and ceramic protection and restoration laboratory: mainly engaged in disease detection, cause analysis, screening test of protective materials, protection and restoration of metal cultural relics, etc.

Analysis and testing laboratory: mainly engaged in the analysis and testing of various sample components.

Joint Laboratory of Ancient Buildings: It mainly carries out basic mechanical properties of historical building components, pseudo-dynamic mechanical properties tests of building structures, health monitoring and safety assessment of historical buildings, etc.

Laboratory for protection and restoration of bamboo and wood lacquerware: it mainly carries out disease detection, cause analysis, screening test of protective materials and protection and restoration of bamboo and wood lacquerware cultural relics.

Biological laboratory: mainly carries out the detection, cause analysis and prevention research of biological diseases of cultural relics, and carries out the research of biotechnology used in cultural relics protection technology.

Mobile laboratory: mainly for all kinds of movable and immovable cultural relics to carry out related detection, protection and restoration work.
