How to judge whether a child is obese?

① Body mass index (BMI) method

For children over 2 years old, the international community recommends body mass index (BMI) to diagnose overweight and obesity. Body mass index = weight (kg) ÷ height (m2) squared. For children aged 2-5, refer to the screening threshold of body mass index for children aged 2-5 in the Growth Curve of Body Mass Index for Children and Adolescents Aged 0- 18 in China. Children aged 6 and above refer to the China industry standard "Screening for Overweight and Obesity of School-age Children and Adolescents" (WS/T 586-20 18).

② Waist circumference assessment method

Waist circumference is a simple index to evaluate abdominal fat accumulation. The waist circumference of children and adolescents aged 7 and above can refer to the China Health Industry Standard "Screening Threshold of High Waist Circumference for Children and Adolescents Aged 7-18" (WS/T611-2018). Taking the waist circumference P90 of children of the same age and sex as the screening threshold of high waist circumference, it is suggested that children may have centripetal obesity.
