Can healthy kittens carry rabies virus?

1, rabies virus will not be produced out of thin air in cats, nor will it be carried in utero, nor will it lurk in cats for a long time (more than half a year). Therefore, a healthy cat cannot spread rabies virus to other animals and people.

2. Cats infected with rabies virus will die within 3 to 7 days. It takes about 3~ 10 days from onset (up to 3 days) to death. During these 3~ 10 days, cats can spread rabies virus through saliva.

3. The spread of rabies depends on saliva, so the main mode of transmission is "biting", and there are few cases of scratches.

Therefore, if a cat has never been out of the house and has never been in contact with a sick cat or dog, there is basically no need to worry too much after being bitten or scratched.

4. If suspicious cat and dog bites (i.e. exposure) are found, the wounds should be cleaned and disinfected immediately, and the bitten cats and dogs should be observed in isolation. If they remain healthy during the observation period of 10 days after exposure, it can be concluded that these cats and dogs are not contagious.

Note: Be sure to pay attention to the role of wound cleaning. Because of the poor viability of rabies virus in vitro, washing the wound thoroughly with soapy water/clean water for more than 0/5 minutes can kill most viruses.
