Lingquan Temple, located at the eastern foot of Yuping Peak, is one of the temples with a long history in Wuhan. It was built in 749 AD and destroyed in Ming and Qing Dynasties. A famous monk in Guling Spring Temple, Xiao Ran, is from Jiangdu (Yangzhou, Jiangsu), and his common name is Li Mingdong. He studied Confucianism since childhood and was proficient in the Six Classics. In the sixth year of Emperor Taizong (A.D. 747), his father Li Yong (an outstanding writer in the Tang Dynasty and a satrap in Beihai) was victimized by traitors, and Dong Li was forced to flee to Longquan Mountain with his brother to live in seclusion, taking grass as his home.
