Dream space
100, one of the "good places for Shanghai residents to stay at home", has created a dreamy "bubble world" in Yangpu Riverside, which has also become a fashionable punching place along the Huangpu River.
The riverside of Yangpu, once known as the original production place of "the largest soap factory in the Far East", has become a "soap dream space". Here, retro posters with a sense of time are hidden in the flowers, and the decoration in the form of soap bubbles constitutes a "fantasy garden". People here are drinking coffee, watching exhibitions, reading the story of a century-old brand in Shanghai, or recalling the past years.
The soap space has a product display area, a handmade DIY soap experience area, an interactive visual art installation, a Baekje Cafe named after the word "soap" and a flower stone restaurant whose creativity comes from soap flower essential oil. It has become a fashion punching point that integrates museum display, manual interaction and special catering along the Yangtze River in Yangpu.
The soap factory turned into a "soap museum" with new vitality.
Walk along Yangpu Riverside and walk to Pingding Road, and you will see the "soap dream space" shaped like soap bubbles. A coffee shop like a transparent box is located here. This is walter bagehot Cafe. Its name is taken from the Chinese character "soap", which is a very interesting name.
White Seven Cafe is simple in color, tough in design and full of the fragrance of soap and coffee. Rose bar, simple wooden stool, black and gold steam pipes are matched together, which is full of rich industrial atmosphere. The round metal decoration on the bar wall is made of soap-making equipment parts. It adds a lot of years to the lingering coffee fragrance around.
Walking down the cylindrical passage from the cafe, you will enter a strange "small world", which used to be the sewage discharge area of the soap factory, and now it has become a soap exhibition hall. Soaps of different ages and different packaging forms are placed in transparent display windows in the shape of soap bubbles, just like "growing" in green plants.
After in-depth exploration and entering the "Soap Dream Space" exhibition experience hall, you can notice the "source" of visual art installations. Visitors can communicate with each other by blowing bubbles through the pipes around them. Aromatic bubbles are reflected by the surrounding prisms, forming a strange bubble world.
In the "dream-chasing" area, there is a peripheral film showing the changes of soap-making industry. Visitors who like to think can try the manual DIY experience in the "soap creation" area on the second floor.
After redesign and transformation, the Soap Dream Space not only presents the original structure of Shanghai Soap Factory, but also injects new life into industrial remains and gives new life to Yangpu Riverside.
Looking for memories of youth in the details of preserving industrial relics
Nowadays, it is difficult for people to trace back to the production scene of the soap factory from the "soap dream space" and its surroundings, but some "retro" features can still be found from the external wall of the whole building: medium-pressure hydrolysis building, grid pool, biological turntable pool, air flotation pool, sodium hypochlorite pool and observation building, all of which are the names of the production workshops of the soap factory.
According to reports, these marks were specially retained during the transformation, and a QR code was posted next to the text. You can know the story behind each name by scanning it with your mobile phone. For example, the medium-pressure hydrolysis building is an oil treatment workshop, and the corresponding equipment hydrolyzes the oil to obtain pure fatty acids for saponification, and glycerol can also be a by-product in the hydrolysis process.
"Soap Dream Space" combines Shanghai's industrial and soap craft exhibitions, and introduces museums and exhibitions related to soap theme and lifestyle. From the front-end spice planting to the back-end handmade soap, it brings all-round soap-making experience to the public. People who have lived and worked here will inadvertently "meet" their memories when they come back here.
Here, various industrial structures crisscross and exchange needed goods. The combination of old objects and contemporary new art has become different artistic installations scattered everywhere, reminding people that the past history has never gone far.
