Ditan, also known as Fang Zetan, is the second largest altar among the five altars in the ancient capital Beijing. Founded in the 9th year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1530), it is the place where emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties sacrificed to the "God of the Emperor" and the largest altar in China. The altar has a total area of 37.4 hectares and is square. The whole building is designed according to the traditional and symbolic legends in ancient China, such as "the sky is round and the place is round", "the sky is blue and the land is yellow", "the sky is wide and the north is wide", "the dragon and the phoenix are auspicious" and "Gankun".
There are ancient buildings in the altar, such as Fang Zetan, Neiting, Slaughterhouse Pavilion, Zhai Palace and Shenku. It is the second largest altar among the five great altars in Beijing. Located on the east side outside Andingmen, opposite the Temple of Heaven, facing the Yonghe Palace, Confucius Temple and imperial academy across the river. Ditan is a solemn, simple and elegant royal altar temple. It is the place where the "Emperor God" was sacrificed in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it is also the largest "shrine" in China. There is a large open space in the altar, with more than 36,000 trees and 82,000 square meters of lawn, with over 200 years old trees 174 trees. There are three unique ancient cypress trees outside the altar, called "General cypress". On Mother's Day, we took our mother for a walk in the lush earthen altar, sheltered the cool sunshine in the shade, patted her back, and read her a few paragraphs of "I and Ditan" to express our love for her.
