What's the difference between exchange students and international students?

Exchange students and international students are two different programs, which are different in concept, origin, nature and classification:

1, different concepts.

Exchange students (English name exchange student) are also called inter-school student exchange programs. "Student exchange" is a project aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and respect between people in different regions and countries and cultivating young people's world outlook.

International students refer to students studying abroad. The term "overseas students" originated from the cultural exchange between China and Japan in the Tang Dynasty, and refers to Japanese students who stayed in China to study after sending envoys from the Tang Dynasty back to China. Now it generally refers to students who study or study abroad.

2. Different origins

The "International Student Exchange Program" began after the Second World War. At present, students from more than 60 countries and regions around the world participate in exchange programs every year to exchange students with each other.

In the Tang Dynasty, in order to absorb the advanced culture of China, the Japanese government sent envoys to China many times. As a diplomatic envoy, an envoy to the Tang Dynasty can't stay in China for too long, so it is difficult to better absorb China's advanced culture. Therefore, the Japanese government has sent "overseas students" and "returned students" at the same time since it sent Tang envoys for the second time.

3. Different in nature

Exchange students is a non-profit government program, which originated after World War II. Because of its public nature, reasonable expenses and strict overseas management, it has been popular in Europe for more than 40 years, and was introduced to China by the Ministry of Education of China in the 1970s.

International students are money-making projects. To study in the other country, you need to pay tuition for studying abroad. The tuition fees for studying abroad vary from country to country.

4. Different classifications

Exchange students are divided into international student exchange and academic research exchange. The international student exchange program is to send students as exchange students to a country of their choice to study in a local high school or university for one year. Exchange students can choose to exchange to European and American countries.

International students are divided into self-funded study abroad and public study abroad. Accommodation, meals, transportation, telephone, books and materials, medical insurance, one-time resettlement, communication, etc. Studying abroad on business, the specific funding standards shall be implemented in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

5. The reasons are different

The purpose of exchange students is to strengthen exchanges between different countries in the world, enhance understanding, cultural exchanges and academic exchanges between countries, and promote friendly exchanges between countries.

The reasons for studying abroad are to travel, broaden one's horizons and experience, learn language and cultural knowledge related to the country, pursue better educational conditions, obtain employment, exercise the ability to live independently, and reasons related to immigration.
