Legal basis: Article 22 of the Military Service Law of People's Republic of China (PRC). Soldiers who retire from active service and meet the requirements for reserve service shall be decided by the army to serve in the reserve service. Those who are qualified to serve as officers after assessment shall serve in the officers' reserve. Soldiers who have retired from active service and are confirmed by the army to serve in the reserve service shall register for reserve service with the military service organs of their counties, autonomous counties, cities and municipal districts within 40 days from the date of retirement.
