Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Education for Children with Cold

In the hot summer, many questions are asked clinically: Can the baby stay in the air-conditioned room? How to dress the baby in summer?

Old people often think? Want your child to be safe and sweaty? Turn on the air conditioner for fear that the child will catch cold, so I can't wait to wear more clothes and be more safe.

Parents who are willing to accept scientific views often disagree, so this parenting problem often becomes the focus of contradictions between the two generations in summer.

I am also a novice father of a boy who is almost three years old. Fortunately, as a pediatrician, I have more say in parenting guidance at home, but I often need to produce some evidence to convince the elderly.

When does the baby need to add clothes?

According to the information on the official parenting website of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), parents can adjust their children's clothes like this:

○ Cold weather (temperature below 24℃)

The baby may need some clothes to keep warm. You can put on close-fitting autumn clothes and diapers, then put on a set of pajamas, put a baby sleeping bag on the baby or wrap the baby in swaddling clothes.

○ Hot weather (temperature above 24℃)

It is enough to put a layer of clothes on the baby. If it is a baby, the experience is the same as that of parents. If parents feel comfortable with clothes, one more is enough.

If the baby is premature, you need one more piece of clothes than the ordinary newborn until the weight catches up with the weight of the full-term baby. At this time, the baby can adjust his body temperature well.

According to Mayo Clinic/KLOC-Parenting Guidelines for Children under 0/year-old, the views of Mayo Clinic in the United States are basically consistent with those of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

For a baby under one year old, in the same environment, wearing your comfortable clothes, the baby wears as many clothes as you, or sometimes wearing a thinner layer of clothes than you may be enough. The ambient temperature is also suitable for adults to wear light clothes.

Hot weather (temperature above 24℃): You can only wear a layer of clothes for your baby, and your baby's ability to dissipate heat and sweat is poor. Excessive ambient temperature can easily lead to an increase in body temperature. But if you are in an air-conditioned room or a vent, you may need to cover it with an extra layer, or cover it with a thin sheet when you sleep.

How to turn on the air conditioner when there is a baby at home?

In summer, cool indoor temperature can ensure a good sleep for your baby. In fact, how much clothes a baby wears in different environments is a principle: it can keep the baby's body dry and not sweat.

In hot summer, air conditioning is necessary to adjust the indoor temperature. As a father and pediatrician, my advice on using air conditioning and dressing my baby is as follows:

1. I am usually used to adjusting the temperature of the air conditioner at home to 25-27℃. I suggest that the indoor temperature should be kept between 24-26℃, which is a relatively comfortable temperature for the baby.

A simple experience is that it is more appropriate to put on a vest and let dad feel the chill temperature of the skin. Don't take the feelings of the elderly as the standard, because the elderly have low basal metabolic rate and are relatively afraid of cold.

2. Avoid the place where the tuyere blows at the children, or where the airflow is relatively large.

Too much airflow often causes more evaporation on the skin surface, leading to a rapid drop in body temperature. At the same time, the feeling of large airflow makes the skin uncomfortable.

Children can wear as much as you. In my experience, my son often wears less than me to achieve a more comfortable state. It is more appropriate to have one more child in the newborn or infancy than in adults.

4. Touch the baby's back or neck, the skin is dry, not sweaty or wet, then the temperature is appropriate.

If you feel sweaty, it means that the temperature needs to drop a little, or you wear too much. The nape of the neck often represents the central temperature of the trunk, and the temperature of the hands and feet can only explain the peripheral temperature. Cold hands and feet cannot be used as a judgment of a child's temperature.

5.? Overheating? It is easier to catch a cold. Too hot environment will cause sweating and body surface wetness, which will cause more heat to evaporate from the skin, thus causing a sudden drop in body temperature. A factor that causes immune changes when body temperature rises and falls sharply.

6. don't turn on the air conditioner immediately when you come home from the hot outdoor. Similarly, sweat on the body surface evaporates too quickly, and sudden drop in body temperature may cause decreased immunity.

Your mother is afraid that you will catch a cold?

Often we think that babies are more fragile and need more? Protection? .

And this protection is taken for granted? Wear more and cover more? . Just like when you grow up, mom always wants you to wear an extra pair of long pants in winter. This kind? Protection? Completely ignore the baby's own feelings.

In the same environment, babies are more afraid of heat than adults:

Basal metabolic rate determines basal body temperature. People with high basal metabolic rate are more likely to feel hot in the same environment.

As we all know, patients with hyperthyroidism are prone to sweating and are afraid of heat because of their high basal metabolic rate. The younger the age, the higher the basal metabolic rate and the higher the basal body temperature. So in the same environment, babies will be more afraid of heat than adults.

In the neonatal ward, there are often healthy newborn babies whose body temperature is above 38℃, often because they are afraid of cold and dare not turn on the air conditioner. The room was hot and tightly wrapped. Facing those new parents, they often do some education.

Infants may be more afraid of heat than adults. Once the temperature in the environment is too high, because their thermoregulation function is immature, and the neural regulation and endocrine regulation mechanism of sweating and heat dissipation are immature, the phenomenon of hyperthermia often occurs.

Moreover, when the baby is breastfeeding, the body temperature tends to rise relatively. At this time, you can take off your baby's clothes and stick it to your mother's skin. Mother's temperature also helps to keep your temperature.

Don't be afraid to turn on the air conditioner. Proper indoor temperature will make him more comfortable, which will not only help children have a good sleep, but also help reduce the occurrence of sudden infant death syndrome.

Obviously, the function of air conditioning is only to keep the ambient temperature within a comfortable range for babies, which is also a more comfortable temperature range for adults, but this is not the case? What harmful substances are released? There is absolutely no need to be afraid to hurt the baby.

However, it should be noted that the air outlet of the air conditioner should not face the child as far as possible, so as to avoid sudden cooling and sudden heating of the baby.

Therefore, in an air-conditioned room, especially when sleeping at night (when awake, the basal metabolic rate will be relatively low), you can add a thin sheet to the baby to protect the trunk.

You can also observe whether the baby is cold or sweaty by touching the skin temperature of the baby's neck and back, and judge whether it is too cold or too hot.

What about those? Want your child to be safe and sweaty? The statement is also completely ignoring the discomfort of the baby's sauna every day. After sweating, the evaporation of sweat on the body surface often makes the body temperature drop faster, and the sudden drop of body temperature is often more likely to cause changes in immunity.

As an air energy water heater is so cheap, have you considered the feelings of other electric water heaters?
