The concept of a healthy city

The Concept and Significance of Healthy City

Healthy city is a new action strategy advocated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the face of the challenges brought by urbanization in the 2/kloc-0 century to human health. It originated from the World Health Organization's "Healthy City Project" in Europe, based on two points, namely, the concept of the city and what the ideal state of a healthy city should be. Urbanization is the general trend of the development of human society in the world today, and it is the objective requirement and inevitable result of the development of social productive forces. The development of cities has brought great convenience to human life and work and promoted the rapid development of the world economy. It is estimated that 50% of the world's population lives in the urbanized man-made space. However, the rapid development of urban construction, especially industrialized cities, is facing many social, health and ecological problems, such as high population density, traffic congestion, housing shortage, drinking water and food supply does not meet the health requirements, increasingly serious ecological pollution, violence and other social problems, which are gradually becoming an important factor threatening human health. Therefore, today's world puts forward new requirements for the existence and development of cities, that is, cities are not only economic entities that unilaterally pursue the efficiency of economic growth, but also an ideal environment that can improve human health and a realistic space for human life, breathing, growth and pleasure. Urban development "cannot sacrifice the ecological environment, human health and social civilization".

In 1994, WH0 put forward the concept of a healthy city: a healthy city is a city that constantly creates and improves the natural and social environment, constantly expands community resources, and enables people to support each other in enjoying life and giving full play to their potential. Domestic experts have put forward a more popular understanding: a healthy city refers to a development whole that takes human health as the center, ensures the healthy life and work of the general public and becomes an organic combination of healthy people, healthy environment and healthy society necessary for the development of human society.

1995, in the practice guide published by WHO, the purpose of the healthy city project is to raise people's awareness, mobilize citizens to cooperate with local governments and social institutions, and form effective environmental support and health services, thus improving the living environment of cities and the health status of citizens.

Building a healthy city is essentially a process in which the government mobilizes all citizens and social organizations to promote health in different fields and at different levels, and it is also a process in which a city is most suitable for people's life and entrepreneurship. Although the starting point of a healthy city lies in public health, the realization of this goal depends on a good urban management model and a humanized urban planning and design scheme conducive to disease prevention and control.
