Medical model refers to the sum of the basic viewpoints, theoretical framework, thinking mode and medical care behavior norms of medical development in a certain historical period. It includes the medical concept with the guiding ideology of medical development as the core, and also includes the medical scientific knowledge system and medical care practice obtained under the guidance of the medical concept.
Since the development of medical models, there are three kinds of medical models:
① Simple holistic medical model in ancient times;
② Modern biomedical model;
③ Bio-psychological-social medical model (referred to as "new medical model").
Evolution of medical model:
(1) Deism medical model: It is believed that human life and health are given by God, and treatment mainly depends on seeking God's advice.
(2) Natural philosophy medical model: a simple and dialectical holistic medical view that links health and disease with the natural and social environment of human life.
(3) Mechanistic medical model: the medical concept and methodology that explains all life phenomena with mechanical materialism and leads medicine to the era of experimental medicine can be regarded as the primary stage of biomedical model.
(4) Biomedical model: a medical concept and methodology that understands health and disease from a biological perspective and reflects the internal relationship between etiology, host and natural environment. Ignoring people's sociality, complex psychological activities and subjective consciousness.
(5) Medical model is not a rigid dogma, but evolves with the development of medical science and the constant changes of human health needs.
(6) The evolution of medical model is an objective historical trend. People should grasp the characteristics of the times and the direction of medical development from modern concepts, modern ways of thinking and modern health needs.
