Dr Jason Wu Zang is not only an excellent returnee scientist, but also an excellent scientific research manager. After returning to China, he entered Shanghai Second Medical College (now Shanghai Jiaotong University Medical College) and China Academy of Sciences, and worked in Shanghai for a long time. He used to be the director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology, the dean of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and the dean of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. He founded the Institute of Health Sciences of China Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Pasteur Institute, and served as the first directors of these two institutes. During this period, Zang Wujing gave full play to his management experience in basic research and clinical application in the United States and Europe, and combined with the current situation that domestic translational medicine research is relatively weak and basic science and clinical research are out of touch, he made pioneering work in scientific research system innovation, especially translational medicine. The Institute of Health Sciences and the Pasteur Institute of China Academy of Sciences founded by Zang have always been the models of scientific research system innovation based on translational medicine. As a returned scientist, Zang was awarded the "Magnolia Award" by the Shanghai Municipal Government twice (a gold award and a silver award).
