Ruan's "Oxygen-enriched water can supplement oxygen for us" read this article.

With more and more foggy days, people's pursuit of fresh air is getting stronger and stronger. Recently, an enterprise introduced a bottled oxygen-enriched weak alkaline water, claiming that the dissolved oxygen content in the water is 6- 10 times that of ordinary water, which can effectively supplement the oxygen needed by human body and open up a new way for human beings to get rid of polluted water and air. Does drinking "oxygen-rich water" really help to replenish oxygen?

In fact, avoiding smog, breathing fresh air and drinking "oxygen-rich water" can't solve the problem.

Oxygen-rich water is not a new concept, it has existed abroad for a long time, and it is called oxygenated water. Abroad, this kind of water was first developed for athletes. Because athletes are physically active and consume a lot of oxygen, some sports scientists and businessmen have thought of developing an oxygen-rich water to help athletes replenish oxygen while drinking water, hoping to improve the level of competition. However, many human studies have found that these so-called oxygen-rich waters can't help athletes improve their competition level.

This kind of oxygen-rich water claims that its high concentration of dissolved oxygen can quickly spread to tissues and blood through gastrointestinal mucosa, thus increasing oxygen partial pressure and blood oxygen saturation, which has a significant effect on assisting in improving hypoxia symptoms. Really have such a good effect? It seems tempting to drink oxygen-rich water to replenish oxygen, but there are actually many problems.

First of all, the solubility of oxygen in water and blood is actually very low. Oxygen in water is called dissolved oxygen (DO), and dissolved oxygen in water refers to oxygen dissolved in water in molecular state. However, the solubility of gas (such as oxygen) in liquid (such as water) is limited, which is proportional to the equilibrium pressure on the liquid surface. This is the basic law of physics, namely Henry's law. Generally speaking, under standard atmospheric pressure, the dissolved oxygen content in water is only about 0.68 mL/dL. In the actual production process, we can increase the dissolved oxygen in the water by increasing the pressure of oxygen, but if the pressure is reduced, such as opening the bottle cap of this bottled oxygen-rich water, the oxygen in the water will be released. Just like when we drink carbonated drinks, when we open the bottle cap, there will be gas carbon dioxide rushing out. It's just that this kind of water is full of oxygen, while the carbonated drinks we usually drink are full of carbon dioxide.

Secondly, oxygen in water can't be well absorbed by human body. Man is a mammal, and his breath comes through his lungs. Oxygen enters the alveoli for gas exchange, then enters the blood of the lungs, and then reaches all parts of the body through blood circulation. After drinking water, water enters the human gastrointestinal tract. Although a little oxygen may enter the blood circulation, the gastrointestinal tract is still different from the lungs. It is really rare to take oxygen through the gastrointestinal tract. After all, we humans are not fish living in water. Therefore, drinking water can not significantly increase the oxygen concentration in human blood.

However, many people may say, after all, the air is so bad now, it may be good for me to drink a few bottles of this water. In fact, the oxygen provided by drinking a few bottles of water is really minimal compared with the oxygen you inhale every day. Studies abroad have investigated the oxygen-rich water sold in the market and found that the highest dissolved oxygen content in the common oxygen-rich water on the market is 80 ml oxygen per liter of water. When breathing, the average adult breathes about 500 ml of air, and the oxygen in the air accounts for about 20%, and there is about 100 ml of oxygen in one breath. In other words, the oxygen content we inhale at one time is higher than that in one liter of oxygen-rich water. And this kind of water, even if you drink this kind of oxygen-rich water every day, generally does not exceed 3 liters at most, and the oxygen contained in it is really insignificant for us who breathe all day. Therefore, it is really impossible to improve the breathing air by drinking water.

The harm of air smog to health can not be ignored. According to the report issued by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) under the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is "carcinogenic to human beings". Although the probability of air pollution causing cancer to everyone is not high, the impact of air pollution is great and the harm cannot be ignored. The main cause of smog is environmental pollution. Because smog can't breathe fresh air, but wants to solve it by drinking water, which is a bit of a headache. Environmental pollution will also pollute water sources. If you want to breathe fresh air, you still have to control environmental pollution!
