China's first advanced large helicopter AC3 13A completed its first flight. What is its significance?

AC3 13A is a 13-ton large multi-purpose civil helicopter developed on the basis of AC3 13. AC3 13A is equipped with a new engine, which improves the power and life reliability of the transmission system, upgrades the electromechanical, avionics, flight control and control systems, and increases airborne equipment such as HUMS and rotor anti-deicing. The maximum takeoff weight of the external store 13.8 tons, and the water spraying amount is 5 tons, which can transport 28 passengers.

AC3 13A helicopter has the ability of visual and instrument flight, which can meet the use requirements of plateau, high temperature, cold and other complex areas and climatic environments. AC3 13A helicopter is equipped with searchlights, fire buckets, electric winches, aerial broadcast and other mission equipment, aiming at the weak links in China's current aviation emergency rescue equipment, which has outstanding fire fighting and search and rescue mission capabilities. By improving the design, the aircraft has excellent plateau performance, which can effectively make up for the gap in emergency rescue and material transportation needs in Tibet and other plateau areas in China.

Through customized design, the aircraft has the ability to perform tasks such as emergency medical rescue, emergency command and comprehensive law enforcement. After the emergency floating body system is installed, it can also carry out maritime rescue tasks, which can meet all-weather and multi-purpose needs throughout China, effectively improve the aviation emergency rescue capability and high-quality supply capability of domestic large-scale civil helicopters, and better support the construction of China's aviation emergency rescue system.

AC3 13A is generally considered as the civilian model of domestic military straight -8L helicopter. The two helicopters are very similar in appearance. The biggest difference is that AC3 13A upgraded the power system and equipped with the fifth-generation turboshaft engine of Aneto-1C, which not only increased the power by about 10%, but also attracted the attention of the outside world.

It should be said that in recent years, the performance of domestic military engines is very good, whether it is turbofan-10 aero engine carried in batches by J-20, QC-280 marine gas turbine used in 055 and 052D, or even 99A main battle tank and 05 amphibious tank. Theoretically, the turboshaft engine for helicopter can share a core engine with the turbofan engine. Although this situation rarely happens in practice, it is really not too difficult to derive advanced turboshaft engines based on the research and development and manufacturing system of advanced turbofan engines.
