In ancient China, both men and women had to have long hair. At that time, when a person was twenty years old, he had to do a "coronation ceremony", that is, put his hair in a bun, which was called a "knot", and then put on a crown (hat) to show that he was an adult. So twenty-year-old men are also called "weak crowns". When a woman reaches the age of fifteen, she will do a "hairpin ceremony", that is, she will put her hair in a bun and then insert the hairpin to show that she has grown up. So a woman of fifteen is also called "Wo". It can be seen that the word "knot hair" originally refers to when men and women are young. When a woman is engaged, she ties her hair with a tassel to show that she has a lover. On the wedding night, the groom untied her. The ancient book "Wedding in Yi Li" records: "The master enters the room and takes off the bride's tassel." Song Mengyuan's "Tokyo Dream Record Marries a Woman" also records: "When a woman marries, men and women worship each other, go to bed, men are left and women are right, leaving less hair, and the two families produce satin, hairpin, wooden comb and beard, which is called bun." This kind of etiquette is a variant of knot hair, which prevailed after Tang and Song Dynasties. Before the toast, the newlyweds each cut off a lock of hair and tied it together to show their solidarity. Later, people called their first marriage "married couple", that is, married couple. If they remarry, the man is called the second wife.

The saying of "married couple" comes from an interesting story: it is said that an ancient emperor was worried that his beard was too short to sleep the night before he ascended the throne (it was considered that the length of his beard was an important symbol of a man's talent and courage in ancient times). What shall we do? The queen beside her takes care of it. She cut off her hair and carefully attached it to the emperor's beard, so that the short beard grew into a beard overnight.
When the emperor ascended the throne the next day, he stroked his beard and proudly accepted the worship of all the ministers. How awesome! When all the ministers saw the emperor's beard passing through his navel overnight, they all marveled that "it was the only thrill"! The queen cut her hair and gave the emperor a beard, and the emperor naturally took care of her. This is the origin of "married couples"
