In 1959, before the withdrawal of Soviet experts, a grand banquet was held in the Great Hall of the People to send the Soviet experts back to China. Because the withdrawal of the experts was a matter for the Soviet leadership, the experts were still friendly to China.
Zhou Enlai himself was there for the farewell banquet, which moved the experts.
At that time, the banquet used three bands, a folk band, an orchestra and a military band.
When Zhou Enlai was making a toast, the military band seized the opportunity to play a Soviet piece called "Sabre Dance," which ended with a roar of applause from the audience, pushing the banquet's atmosphere to a climax.
Zhou Enlai immediately wrote a note for the staff to praise the orchestra, saying that the orchestra worked well together.
