The jazz drum, or tambourine, is a very important percussion instrument in jazz ensembles, which usually consists of a foot-pumped bass drum, also known as the "bottom drum", a military drum, two or more tom drums, one or two suspended cymbals (Crash Cymbal), and a drum kit for the jazz drum. It usually consists of a pedal bass drum, a snare drum, two or more tom drums, one or two crash cymbals, a ride cymbal and a hi-hat with a pedal.
Of course, sometimes due to the need to play some additional such as cowbells, wooden fish, mallets, triangles, sound tree, no matter how many additional devices, are played by one person. The drummer uses drumsticks to hit the parts to make them sound. Drumsticks commonly used in jazz include wooden mallets, drum brushes made of steel wire, and bundles of sticks made from bundles of thin wooden strips.
The drum kit was formed in the 1940s, and it contains a variety of different types of hand- and foot-struck instruments with different timbres. Hand percussion instruments include snare drums, tom-toms, and suspended cymbals, while foot percussion instruments include drums and pedal cymbals.
Based on this, according to the needs of the performance, can be added or subtracted at any time additional percussion instruments. In the band, the drummer is in charge of the tempo and rhythm of the music, especially in jazz, the drummer needs to maintain a tacit cooperation with other musicians.
In general, drums are often played with other instruments***, but they can also be played solo.
