Cowherd and Weaver Girl is one of the four folk love legends of Han nationality. The related festival is Valentine's Day in China. On the night of July in the lunar calendar, looking up at the starry night sky, people can see two bright stars on both sides of the Milky Way.
The legend of Vega and Cowherd and Weaver Girl is about their love story. According to legend, the Weaver Girl is the granddaughter of the Queen Mother. She is ingenious and good at weaving, and can weave colorful clouds with a pair of dexterous hands. Once upon a time, there was an orphan named Cowherd. Although he works hard, he always leads a poor life.
Later, under the guidance of the old cow, the cowherd took the clothes of the Weaver Girl who was taking a bath in the lake. The Weaver Girl also loved the Cowherd, and they became husband and wife. From then on, men plowed and women wove, gave birth to a son and a daughter, and lived a happy life.
Who knows that the weaver girl came down to earth to enjoy the family happiness with the cowherd and neglected the weaving of clouds. When the Queen Mother knew this, she was furious and sent heavenly soldiers to take the Weaver Girl back to the Heavenly Palace. With the help of the old cow, the cowherd carried a laundry list of children and chased them to the sky. When the Queen Mother saw the Cowherd coming, she drew a big river between the Weaver Girl and the Cowherd wearing a golden hairpin. This is the Milky Way.
The turbulent galactic water ruthlessly separated the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, and they could only cry across the river. Later, when the Queen Mother saw that they were crying very sadly, she was moved with compassion and ordered the magpie to take a message and let them meet once every seven days. Who knows that the magpie was wrong and agreed to meet once a year on July 7.
So, the Queen Mother punished Magpie because Magpie matched the bridge. On the evening of July 7th every year, Cowherd and Weaver Girl will meet on the bridge built by magpies and pour out their hearts. Legend has it that in the dead of night, cowherd and weaver girl can be heard whispering under the grape trellis. If the rain falls in the sky, it will be their sad tears.
