Wuhan Institute of Physical Education, formerly known as the Zhongnan Institute of Physical Education, is one of the first batch of independent full-time general higher education physical education colleges and universities in the new China, established in 1953 in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, and moved to Wuhan City, Hubei Province in 1955, and renamed as Wuhan Institute of Physical Education in 1956.
