Sparks - One Beauty to Ten (after watching the Mind's Wondrous Journey)

I teach high school. Many of the students' habits have long been formed, and many of their ideas are basically fixed. The class encountered a "little hedgehog", three views are not correct, often a headache. In the face of this situation, the classroom teacher to do everything possible, but not necessarily to make the prodigal son back. Some of the harsh criticism, know the power; some of the rain, to love people. In fact, some students, you can not move him. When you find him, he has already erected hard thorns, forming an invisible barrier to your "grace and mercy". So, what to do?

Look at an example from my class.

His name is Qiu wei, 16 years old, sophomore class divided into six classes, the subject of choice for the examination: physics, chemistry, geography. His dark face, the right corner of the eye by the eyebrow has a five-centimeter scar, small eyes, often showing a wry expression. At the class teacher's place, there is a file of his various mischievous behavior. Students in this combination were generally not very good at languages. But I have not encountered a class that so preemptively rejects language as this one. Time passed in an essay, a poem, an exchange, and one day I saw Qiu reading an old, old, old book, presumably printed in the nineties, with great fascination. I approached and took a closer look, and, ho, it was actually The Selected Poems of Xu Zhimo! I didn't think he would be so serious, and potentially wondered if he would make a show of studying seriously. He saw me standing next to him and said enthusiastically: "Teacher, this book is really good ...... really especially good. Have you ever heard of Serendipity?" Immediately he closed the book, recited with deep emotion "I am a cloud in the sky, occasionally projected to your heart of the wave ......" To be honest, or allow me to say unkindly, the deep emotion and tenderness of this poem is extremely incongruous with his looks and temperament! Stunned, I smiled at him and said, "Teacher likes this one too." He laughed very exaggeratedly. In the next few days of recess, I often saw him holding that book of poems, reading silently.

One day, the class teacher, Mr. Yang, said, "Look at Qiu is not going crazy ah, as long as he sees me, he improvised a recitation of Xu Zhimo's poem, and especially deep emotion. Several other teachers have said that they have recently received the same treatment, thanks to him, recently recalled a lot of poetry. I also received it! After class, he came to the office and recited "the tenderness of a bowed head, the shyness of a cool breeze" with great affection. I don't think it was just a momentary enthusiasm. I asked him if he knew Xu Zhimo. He said only partially. If you know his "silver gray eyes", you will understand his poetry better.

The next day, he changed his book! The biography of Xu Zhimo is also a bit of a pirate book, the book shell does not match his focused reading. He sat sideways and straight, holding the book in both hands, his back tightly against the wall, his eyes fixed on the book, moving his sight with the text. A classmate next to the playful and playful.

This evening, my evening study, I called him over, did not wait for me to open his mouth, he excitedly began to talk about Xu Zhimo's life experience, the legend of the story ...... as open the words of the faucet, a flood of words, gushing. In this way, I listened to half an hour. After telling what he had already read, he asked, what is the teacher looking for me to do? Haha, the guy finally remembered that I was the one looking for him. I will ask the students to talk about what they have read and take it out to share during the evening study hall, would you like to share? He suddenly got nervous and stammered, "Can I? What? I told him categorically that he was very good and would be very successful, so I told him about Xu Zhimo and his poetry. He turned red with excitement and went out happily.

After this, he even recited Xu Zhimo's poems to his classmates and often recited them as well. He was truly fond of Zhimo's poems. Also sincerely want to come to share the poetry.

Here we go, starting his podium sharing time. At first, a little stuttering, slowly, comfortable a lot, thinking began to gallop across the board, in the poetry and life between the random switch. It was a great speech. The students who had previously mocked him as "Qiu Zhimo" were in awe of him. Everyone was quiet, listening to him. He sensed that the more he spoke, the better he got, and finally received a round of applause.

Guess what happened to Qiu? He began to like the poetry of Ximou Rong again. As he memorized a lot of poems, when he wrote his essays, his language was richer, more expressive, and his expression more tense. The intuitive change was that he went to language class, very active and confident. His monthly test scores, finally got to about 110 points. Then he fell in love with the language, and in one of his assignments, he wrote a piece of literature that was fluent and meaningful.

This is one example. There are actually many more, so what does it say?

People, who need to be seen. People have a spark. You need to see the "spark" in your students, and find that little fire that can be set ablaze. From a little light to a piece of light, until the light of their own life. In the face of this kind of students with thorns, classroom teachers have two ways to deal with, one is to pull out the thorns; the second is to see the spark. Thorns, can not pull, not good to pull, but if there is a spark, then it will burn the heart of the ice, the back of the hard thorns.

Anyone who needs a spark is easy to see.

A senior physics teacher is also a classroom teacher told me that ten years ago, students, especially like to collect his quotes, I said is not very moved. He said, no. He felt that his language is too poor, feel very embarrassed. I said that the students remembered your quotes because they stayed and liked you. He said he was unsuccessful as a classroom teacher at that time and was very naive. I said at least the students kissed their teachers, so what's the problem. He said he would never talk like that again now. I think maybe it is those special words, those special expressive words, that are the spark of the classroom teacher. The students see it, they see the passion of an educator, and they are infected with it, so they are especially close to their classroom teacher. There is no such thing as a perfect classroom teacher, only a classroom teacher with a spark that students respect and love. Disney's movie "The Mind's Journey" has the same spark.

Everyone has a spark! It needs to be found. The world is often tenfold, and it is that one beauty that may spread into ten. Positive guidance, positive education, you and me alike.
