Tang was born in a family of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners, and her mother was a TCM practitioner. Her father's name was Yi and her mother's name was Tang. Before she was born, because there were already two girls in the family, Tang's mother decided to give birth to a girl to follow her mother's surname, and even named her Tang Liang. Because the sun was particularly beautiful on the day of her birth, she was renamed Tang Can. Tang Chan graduated from high school and enrolled in nursing school, but Tang Chan could not accept the requirement to cut off her long hair, so she went to Zhuzhou Early Childhood Teacher Training School for three years to study Early Childhood Teacher Training.
During that time, she was praised by Li Xiao-II, who came to review the program during a cultural performance. As a result, she traveled to Changsha to seek out Li Xiao-II to learn vocal music and become her teacher.
