Hani ethnic group
Hani nationality is one of the unique ethnic minorities in Yunnan.
The Hani nationality has a long history, and the Yi and Lahu nationalities originated from the ancient Qiang tribes. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the ancestors of Hani and Yi people were both called "Wuman" tribes. At that time, the "Wuman" tribes in southern Yunnan and northeastern Yunnan were called "South China" and "Thirty-seven Man Wars", among which seven tribes, including Yuan Yin, Situo, Xixichu, Luowei and Wangnong, were mostly "harmonious" and were the ancestors of the Hani people.
In 937 AD, Duan Siping, the envoy of Nanzhao to the sea, joined forces with "Thirty-Seven Units" to March into Dali, overthrowing the "Yi Ning State" that usurped Nanzhao's regime and establishing Dali. The social form of Hani nationality had basically entered the feudal society before the establishment of People's Republic of China (PRC). Due to historical reasons, the Hani region on the south bank of Honghe River is still in the transition zone from feudal Lord economy to landlord economy.
