The Devotion of Suspect X|Is Shi Hong "Devoted" to love, or is there something else going on?

The movie "The Devotion of Suspect X", directed by Su Youpeng, has recently been released in major theaters. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Keigo Higashino. Its original book itself has an excellent reputation, and being adapted into a movie has once again pushed this excellent work to the audience in China.

When the movie was being publicized, the cast and crew used the tagline "A well-designed confession of grief". While successfully attracting the audience's attention, the movie also speaks to the theme of the movie.

I have always believed that a good movie should not only give the audience spiritual pleasure, but also bring them inspiration in life. And the characterization of Shi Hong, the protagonist of the drama, is really worth playing with. In The Devotion of Suspect X, Shi Hong, a genius obsessed with math, has been a controversial character.

Because of love, Shi Hong elaborately designed a trap to mislead the police, and thus protect the woman he likes, Chen Jing. If not for the appearance of Tang Chuan, the police would have failed to find clues. Even if they did find a clue, it was just a break that Shi Hong had intentionally left behind by taking the initiative to draw the police's attention to himself. But in the end, Chen Jing was grateful to Shi Hong and took the initiative to turn herself in, and the truth of the matter was revealed.

Although this drama is titled Dedication, the flaws in Shi Hong's character are also the trigger for what he does. From the beginning to the end, Shi Hong is not as great as he is described in the play's title, "Dedication". On closer examination, this "elaborate confession" is full of tragedy, but also has a certain degree of inevitability, and it all starts with Shi Hong's character.

The homeless, office workers, and square dancers on the street are lightly described by Shi Hong as "useless cogs"; when he brutally kills a homeless man in the name of love, he feels no shame; when he learns that Chen Jing killed Fu Jian, he is confident that he is the only one who can help Chen avoid the police; when he kills a homeless man, he is confident that he will be able to help Chen avoid the police; and when he kills a homeless man, he is confident that he will be able to help Chen avoid the police; and when he kills a homeless man, he feels that he can help Chen escape from the police. he killed the homeless man, he felt that he could completely deceive the police, so when he ran into them for the first time, he didn't give a damn.

All of this points to one thing - although Shi Hong is modest and unassuming on the outside, he is actually self-righteous and cold-hearted on the inside.

When a person lives in his own world, he is the king of his own world, and the same is true for Shi Hong. Just like when he was a child, Shi Hong was convinced that he was not at fault for arguing the four-color problem on the geography exam paper, and that the fault was the teacher's eyesight. When Tang Chuan is in front of Shi Hong and gives him the truth of what he has reasoned out, Shi Hong once again arrogantly asserts that the police will not confirm the identity of the wanderer.

The fact that a self-righteous genius, fully immersed in his own elaborate bureau convinced that he will not be detected without the slightest remorse for what he has done, is entirely a result of his brooding character.

The more proud a person is when he meets with a setback, the more he will fall flat on his face, and the blow he receives will be more thorough.

So when he knew that Tang Chuan was involved in the case, the proud self in his inner world felt challenged at once, and the sense of superiority formed over a long period of time would disintegrate, and the permanent psychological positioning would begin to break the dike. Shi Hong began to make mistakes, and Tang Chuan also because of Shi Hong's broken and further close to the truth of the matter.

Although Shi Hong has an undoubtedly high IQ, he has a very low EQ. He is not good at channeling his bad emotions, but he is good at being self-absorbed.

When he can't continue to break through academically, Shi Hong will feel pessimistic and despairing, and choose to end his life hastily; when Chen Jing mistakenly knocked on the door of his room, Shi Hong mistakenly thought that it was Chen Jing who saved his life.

People with high EQ know how to control their emotions, how to express their true selves, and how to make the right choice at the right time. And these for Shi Hong, he obviously can not do.

Shi Hong's approach to the world is one of quiet and silence. He treats difficult academic problems by choosing to repeat calculations in a cabin and pushing himself to the brink of extinction, so when he is faced with a sudden love, he also chooses to live in his own world and interpret it alone. Therefore, he chose to stay by Chen Jing's side to quietly wait but not confess, until Chen Jing's accident to stand out will not seem strange at all.

In terms of emotional management, Shi Hong doesn't behave like a mature person at all, let alone a highly intelligent genius.

While Shi Hong would ask for a signature set meal every day when he passed by the snack bar, he had never been brave enough to look up at Chen Jing. Even if he liked Chen Jing, what could he do? For Shi Hong, the love that stood and watched from afar might be the best outlet for his love.

If the person living next door to Chen Jing were Tang Chuan, when he fell in love with Chen Jing, I think he would have boldly pursued it, instead of just hiding in the distance and quietly watching. On the contrary, Shi Hong, if not for Chen Jing's accident, he probably would not have appeared in Chen Jing's world.

Although both Shi Hong and Tang Chuan have super high IQs, they are two extremes in character, one sunny and one gloomy. This is also a reflection of the difference in their emotional intelligence.

Shi Hong every time he passes the morning work of the riverfront road, encounter begging beggars do not look, while when Tang Chuan first walked in the same intersection but not stingy alms. When Shi Hong saw Tang Chuan pull out change and throw it into the beggar's bowl, the turnaround shot also seemed to have a deeper flavor.

Tang Chuan can use what he usually learns in the right way, punishing the evil and promoting the good, while Shi Hong can only talk to a bunch of middle-school students about theories they don't really understand. What is an additional question? The answer Shi Hong gave was full of philosophical nature. But for such esoteric questions and the students who do not know anything about it in front of them, Shi Hong can only do is to loudly rebuke.

It is said that character determines destiny, if Shi Hong's character can be more sunshine, in the face of Chen Jing killed her ex-husband by accident, he may choose a better way to help Chen Jing through the difficult times, rather than the sword to go off the beaten track, trying to use their own power to cover up the truth of the matter.

In this way, the so-called "dedication" of Shi Hong in "The Devotion of Suspect X" is not entirely a sacrifice for love, but more of a "dedication" to prove himself, as if trying to solve a puzzle involving human nature.

"Is it hard?"

"Hard!"
