When it comes to the movie "Cinema Paradiso", the first thing the guy wants to do is to force a wave of angry praise. This old movie, released in 1988, is still a hard-to-surpass classic until today, thirty years later. The movie also won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 62nd Academy Awards in 1990 and the Grand Jury Prize at the 42nd Cannes Film Festival in 1989.
The film tells the story of Evert, a movie projectionist, and Toto, a young boy who loves movies. The two of them have a very big age difference, but they are bound together by the movie. And Toto's life is changed by meeting Evert.
Many years ago, when I was still very young, I saw this movie, and at that time, I felt that most of the plot in the movie was irrelevant and I didn't think it was that classic. But as time passes and I grow up and mature, I revisit the movie "Cinema Paradiso" and feel y about most of the episodes in the movie. And finally understand why this movie can get such high praise.
One of the most touching episodes in the whole movie is the scene where they part ways at the station after Toto listens to Everett's advice and decides to leave town. Unlike the majority of separations, there wasn't much sadness between them, and Everett even gripped Duo's shoulders with both hands and firmly told him not to write letters, not to look back, not to give up because of longing, and to forget all about us. And told Duo if you give up don't come back to see me.
After saying this, one detail that Ivor had was to repeatedly stroke Duo's face with his hand. Although his words were firm and slightly stern, his demeanor had betrayed the depth of emotion and endless expectations he had for Duo.
